The Roman Consul Stakes is a Group 2 race run under Set Weights conditions for three year olds at Rosehill conducted by the Australian Turf Club.

The Roman Consul Stakes is run over 1200m. It was first run in 1979 and was won by Meriville.

The Roman Consul Stakes is named after top class horse from the 1960s.

Only the 2001 running, which took place on the Kensington track at 1100m, was not run over 1200m.

Has predominantly been run at Randwick but the odd edition has been at Rosehill and Warwick Farm. It went to Rosehill in 2023.

The Roman Consul Stakes began as a Listed race then went to Group 3 in 1984 and a Group 2 from 2005.

This race has become the Sydney lead up for the Coolmore Stud Stakes on Derby day but can also become a possible Everest lead up.

In 2016, Russian Revolution defeated the Golden Rose winner and the Golden Slipper winner into the placings.

The 2007 race was not held due to the Equine Influenza break out.

The Roman Consul Stakes was worth $300,000 in 2025.

Notable winners of the Roman Consul Stakes include Switzerland (2024), Best Of Bordeaux (2022), Paulele (2021), Wild Ruler (2020), Cosmic Force (2019), Russian Revolution (2016), Exosphere (2015), Brazen Beau (2014), Zoustar (2013), Foxwedge (2011), Buffering (2010), Fastnet Rock (2004), Exceed And Excel (2003), Snowland (2002), Encounter (1997), Our Maizcay (1995), Slight Chance (1992), Christmas Tree (1987) and Red Anchor (1984).
