History

The Dewhurst Stakes is a Group 1 race run under Set Weight conditions for two year old colts and fillies at Newmarket conducted by the Jockey Club.
The Dewhurst Stakes is run over seven furlongs. It was first run in 1875 and was won by Kisber.
It is the middle peg of the juvenile Group 1s pattern with the Futurity Trophy to come.
Founded by breeder Thomas Gee, it was named after the Dewhurst Stud. It is noted as the producer of classic winners.
Aidan O'Brien won 6 of the last 12 editions and 8 overall. Before him Jim Bolger and Kevin Manning took out five of seven renewals.
Recent 2000 Guineas winners to win the Dewhurst include Chaldean, Churchill, Dawn Approach, Frankel and Rock Of Gibraltar.
Lester Piggott has an incredible ten winners as jockey while John Porter, Frank Butters and Aidan O'Brien lead the trainers with eight each.
The form from the 2018 edition was outstanding with Too Darn Hot, Advertise, Anthony Van Dyck, Sangarius and Mohawk winning group races – the first three G1s.
One of the most impressive juvenile seasons ever came from Pinatubo in 2019 and he added the Dewhurst to the Vincent O'Brien National Stakes and remained unbeaten in six outings for Charlie Appleby.
St Mark's Basilica ran at decent odds to win in 2020 but then took all before him winning races like the Poule d'Essai des Poulains, Prix du Jockey Club, Eclipse Stakes and the Irish Champion Stakes before being retired at the end of his 3yo season.
Native Trail returned as a 3yo to win the Craven and Irish 2000 Guineas plus placing in races like the 2000 Guineas and Eclipse Stakes. Chaldean did do the 2000 Guineas double in 2023.
City Of Troy was described as being Coolmore's 'Frankel' after his demolition in 2023. He'd go on to win multiple G1s including the Derby.
The Dewhurst Stakes was worth £500,000 in 2025.
