Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for October 2.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meeting are today held at Newcastle, Geelong, Dalby and Kalgoorlie.
NEWCASTLE: RACE 3 @ 2:25 PM
COLUMBUS (2) got a fair way back before winding up late to finish third in an impressive debut over 1400m at this track a couple of weeks back. Cost $1.5 million as a yearling so expectations will be high. Great chance to break through over this slightly longer journey. LUPA CAPITOLINA (8) ran a better race last time out when lining up for only the second time, making a little late ground to finish a close fifth over this trip at Kembla. Can improve again and play a major role. IRONHEART (4) was prominent on straightening but couldn't finish off when fifth in the same race as Columbus here recently. Lightly raced and can do more. HELL ISLAND (6) has struggled on wet decks in his three starts to date. Was well supported last time - may have more to offer on a good track. LADY PANKHURST (1) is fitter for two runs back from a spell and can finish this off strongly with a cosy passage from an inside gate assured.
SELECTIONS: Backing Columbus.

GEELONG: RACE 6 @ 4:00 PM
STEEL MOVE (6) improved again narrowly beaten this grade trip at Seymour. Draws inside and can take this out with the extra fitness. ACTIVE DUTY (3) is a leader and also rates a winning chance. Drops back 503m off a nose defeat in a no-metro win at Morphettville Parks, but uses the inside gate and has been kept on the fresh side. TATSU (7) took the opportunity to lead at Geelong and missed by a nose. He was good on the synthetic prior and deserves consideration at an each-way price. ACELUM (8) won his Maiden at Kilmore by a big space at a short quote. This is harder but he's in a top stable and is sure to keep improving.
SELECTIONS: Backing Steel Move.
DALBY: RACE 6 @ 3:25 PM
WINCHMAN (1) was heavily supported at Warwick last time out and didn't let backers down with a strong 1.3L victory. Winning rider Fergusson-Smith sticks in the saddle and again gets the benefit of her 4kg claim. Looks the one they all have to run down. MA'S EPIC (2) strips fitter second-up from the break and is usually thereabouts. Looms as the main danger. MISHANI PERSUASION (3) is yet to miss a quinella spot in three spins around this circuit and will be better for that first-up hit-out. Top-three contender on best figures. YES I'M UGLY (8) doesn't know how to run a bad race and is a must for the multiples. ALFA LILLY (9) best of the rest from the low draw.
SELECTIONS: Winchman to go back-to-back.
KALGOORLIE: RACE 6 @ 4:15 PM
JUST FAMOUS (2) was prominent throughout last time when second over 1300m at this track. He impressed here and at Northam the two before, and with the in-form Fiore reunited, he is well placed to return to the winners' list. GREAT EDITION (1) deserves plenty of respect presenting off a near miss at Belmont. He keeps improving and is a threat on the 8-day return. JAYASHREE (6) switched from a Sydney stable and needed the first-up outing. She will be better over further but has the ability and has to be kept onside. COCOON BAY (4) is a leader who was nudged out here two back. She jumped slowly the latest and raced wide throughout. She will give a sight if she jumps with them.
SELECTIONS: Backing Just Famous.
