Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for August 12.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meeting are today held at Hawkesbury, Muswellbrook, Mackay, Broome and Bairnsdale.
HAWKESBURY: RACE 1 @ 1:20 PM
HURRY MISS (9) well bred mare ready to shed her maiden status. Closed strongly over the 1400m from the wide draw when a narrow second at Kembla Grange. Finally drawn a low gate and no excuses today. HARRY'S EVIDENCE (7) comes out a strong race on resumption when nailed late by Hillier to finish second over 1200m at Newcastle. That form has since been franked and expected to go close. FIREWORK (6) huge flop at second run back as the ($1.70 fav), when a tiring sixth over 1300m at Wyong. Senior rider back on and capable of better. MACCBI (8) outclassed first up when fifth over 1200m at Canterbury. Placed second up and gets map favours.
SELECTIONS: Hurry Miss in a tight contest.
As a FREE Racing and Sports offer, below is the Hawkesbury Computer Card.
MUSWELLBROOK: RACE 5 @ 3:35 PM
PANTA RHEI (3) hits the race at peak fitness and has the form to win. She was quickly back on track here last time on the heavy, and was narrowly beaten at Scone her first two runs this preparation. ANGIE'S SISTER (5) was heavily backed and led, demolishing the Wellington Maidens by 6L first-up on a heavy track. Keeps the handy 2kg claim and fitter she can lead them a merry chase. NOR NOR WEST (2) resumes and would be a hope if presented on song. Penza is a positive jockey engagement, and he has the gate speed to cross and position forward. BEYOND MY KEN (1) is seasoned and went close at Grafton two back. Maps well, and the claim brings him into it.
SELECTIONS: Backing Panta Rhei.
MACKAY: RACE 5 @ 3:17 PM
WOODSTOCK ROCK (1) is easy to fancy on his form and is well set up again. He hasn't run a bad race to date and first up showed no signs of that diminishing by leading and drawing away. Up in the weights but going so well. UNCUT GEM (4) was a little plain last outing but good first up. She was thought good enough to contest black type races last campaign. RAVENITE (11) came from midfield to win last month. This is his best distance. AMBERINGER (8) has needed racing and might be ready now. This race will suit her more. ANDIRON (7) made up nice ground resuming. Does go her best at this very track.
SELECTIONS: Woodstock Rock the best.
BROOME: RACE 3 @ 3:05 PM
SPICE IS RIGHT (1) sat on the speed and bolted in here last start, running away to win by 2.8L. The rise to 1435m today doesn't look an issue and while he carries the big weight, Riordan's claim is a big tick. Can find the front again and repeat the dose. SMART SHADOW (5) is third-up today and showed improvement last start in a CL3 at Port Hedland, finishing only 1.3L away as the equal fave. Fitter for that run and getting out in trip again is a big tick. Sticky gate, but she can go close with further improvement on the cards. PUDDIN 'N' PIE (8) dropped back in trip last start and was too strong at Port Hedland, winning by 1.5L. Will need a touch of luck from the gate, but she's shown good early speed in recent races and she's not to be discounted. THE TOP BAR (3) has dipped his past couple but is right up to this if he can bounce back to his best. CHEDDAR BOB (6) won't be far away dropping in trip.
SELECTIONS: Spice Is Right looks the one to beat.
BAIRNSDALE: RACE 7 @ 3:00 PM
ROCKCLIFF (7) doesn't win out of turn but is going quite well this time in, beaten narrowly at Moe last time out. Can run well again. ZE BEE NINE (5) is stuck on 1 win from 27 but was going quite well prior to a last start flop. He's fresh for this and could improve. A PINCH OF LUCK (3) is resuming from a spell and is a winner previously at this track and distance. Ran eighth in a jump-out at Pakenham. Has fresh form and is well placed to feature here. HOT CHILLI MAMA (6) has been out of the money in recent runs including last time out when tenth over 1430m at Geelong a month ago. Has the blinkers on again and look for an improved run.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Rockcliff.
