Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for October 15.
Australian thoroughbred meeting are today held at Warwick Farm, Caulfield, Doomben, Mackay, Ascot and Balaklava.
WARWICK FARM: RACE 5 @ 4:25 PM
BRIGIDINE GAL (9) finally gets to a race that suits at the fourth run of the campaign. Tackled stakes races either side of a 1400m BM78 in which she carried 59kgs against Saturday company. Beautifully in today for a dual Group 3 placegetter. CRISTAL CLEAR (1) has showed great determination to win at his last three outings, the latest in the Dubbo Cup over this distance under a steadier of 59kgs. Bonding well with Braith Nock who is aboard again. Can add to the picket fence back in Benchmark company. BROSNAN (8) settled midfield then let down impressively to just prevail over this course and distance recently. Up sharply in grade today but drops 6kgs. Cannot be underestimated. ZONDEE (7) put the writing on the wall last start when beaten just half a length over the Randwick mile. Only goes up 1kg tackling a midweeker so he gets his chance. JAMBEROO (5) will improve on what he does today but is worth throwing in wider exotics first-up from a spell.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Brigidine Gal.

CAULFIELD: RACE 7 @ 5:10 PM
Onto our feature of the day, the G3 Coongy Cup and two horses appeal at the early odds. The first of those is QUIETNESS (11) who resumed in a BM88 at Randwick, running on strongly off a good tempo to grab third in an encouraging return. She didn't win last time in but ran some good races over this sort of trip and now into her second Australian campaign, she can elevate second up for the in form yard. Also respecting WOOTTON VERNI (10) for Chris Waller. Three runs back have been solid, good in a strongly run mile two back before grinding home at 1800m last start, beaten 2.9 lengths by Charterhouse and Globe, the latter of whom is now a G1 winner. Gets to 2000m now and sets up nicely. STATUARIO (7) chased home Caulfield Cup favourite Half Yours last start and should be peaking now. Tricky draw but has strong claims. FUTURE HISTORY (1) could be an improver, his best is good enough.
SELECTIONS: Backing Quietness & Wootton Verni.
DOOMBEN: RACE 3 @ 3:33 PM
CARDONETTE (7) draws awkwardly but will take beating building on her nose defeat at Eagle Farm on debut jumping a $2.50 favourite. She didn't get it easy and impressed. Thomson stays aboard and the filly is sure to keep improving for the premier Gollan yard. ON POINT PIXIE (9) did about what was expected at Eagle Farm first up over this distance and three back wasn't beaten far here in Stakes grade. Brings a trial win and can feature with average luck in the run. BRAVE MONARCH (5) debuted in the Cardonette race beaten 2.5L. He's just missed since in a trial here and can make the finish. KING COBAMA (1) missed a whisker at the Sunshine Coast on debut and will build on that. The 3kg claim is handy but the gate is awkward. TILIA (15) resumed at Eagle Farm for Gollan and disappointed (vet cleared). She'd raced well on debut and had trialled well. Graham replaces Thompson and an improved effort is likely at a price.
SELECTIONS: Backing Cardonette.
MACKAY: RACE 7 @ 5:39 PM
UNDERRATED (2) is in the high-striking Clinton Taylor stable and was heavily bet when narrowly beaten here first-up from a wide gate. Maps better today and Butler replaces Wiggins. He's raced well in stronger than this and has placed 2/2 second-up. He's the one they have to beat. RAVENITE (3) comes out of the same race and didn't have the best of it. He came from the back beaten a whisker the one before and impressed. Winning rider Cartwright is reunited, and he should be in the finish. LULO ROSE (6) did nothing dropping back to 800m at Twin Hills but went close here and at Townsville the two prior from the speed. Maps well today and can go better over the longer sprint. HOLY CROWN (8) was sharply better just missing at Rockhampton but has to manage an outside barrier.
SELECTIONS: Backing Underrated to win.
ASCOT: RACE 4 @ 6:07 PM
They should go very hard and happy to trust the premier rider will let it all unfold on ELITE BEAU (8). Made debut with a fast finishing win then went straight into the Perth Stakes and ran below best. Given a break and presents on the back of two sharp trial wins. Likely to stalk and hit the line hard. XENTARO (7) won two on end then was sixth but beaten less than two lengths last start. Another who will sit back and charge home late. PROMISING (5) had just one run last time in when struggled on heavy ground and went back out to the paddock. Fitter for two trials and despite the draw will take catching. SPICY THANG (9) gave a sight but faded late last time in richer company. Can give a sight this line-up with the light weight. COONDLE (3) has had plenty of tries but better than recent form. Suited here and can give a sight off the low draw.
SELECTIONS: Give Elite Beau another chance.
BALAKLAVA: RACE 5 @ 4:50 PM
HIGH TOR (1) looks the one to beat here. Her recent form, including a win and a placing here at Balaklava, is hard to fault. She's up in the weights but she draws well and gets a handy claim. If she turns up in the same form, I don't know how they beat her. NIGHT CRUISER (8) is another last start winner and he will likely settle in front of High Tor in the run. He's open to some more improvement second-up and he looks the main danger, especially if he can get a cheap split or two. Todd Pannell goes onto FLAMBARD (2), who draws low and looks ready to peak. He's a top-three chance for sure. Others worth some thought for quaddies and exotics are BELLE INFERNO (4) and OBI (3).
SELECTIONS: High Tor to win.
