Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for October 9.
Australian thoroughbred meeting are today held at Hawkesbury, Orange, Kyneton, Rockhampton and York.
HAWKESBURY: RACE 1 @ 1:50 PM
FASHIONABLE (9) has only raced twice and has been strong through the line on each occasion over shorter trips. By Savabeel so she will relish getting out to 1800m. Only concern is a lack of pace but Tim Clark will read the situation well and possibly roll forward. Nice staying filly in the making. TOMMY THUG (4) was a little one-paced when fresh from a spell last time out over 1500m at this track, just missing the placings. Has been in the money eight times from 15 runs so the patience is wearing thin. Needs this sort of trip second-up and should improve. THE BIG BLUE (3) beat all but the promising Golden Century over 1900m at Canterbury at his last run a month ago. Might lead and if left alone could prove tough to catch. WELCOME RED SUN (8) kicked this prep off with a couple of nice runs on heavy tracks then failed badly on a good surface at Kembla last time. Jury is out. LITTLE LUNCH (6) did little when resuming but did place second-up last prep so she can improve.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Fashionable.

ORANGE: RACE 1 @ 2:10 PM
PRIZUGA (8) has been unlucky not to have broken through. Led and was in the firing line on the turn last start over 1400m at Dubbo overrun in the latter stages. Well-placed on this occasion and he gets his chance to break through. DUNNA RUNNA (2) represents an in-form Goulburn stable and showed enough at home on debut to consider. Boudvillain rides today and is striking at 34% with the yard (89 rides). SINGLE SHY (3) has her fourth start and should appreciate the step-up in distance. Got too far back in a heavy track last time and is likely to sit handier today. The 2kg claim benefits. LITLFELA (1) improved beaten a whisker at Tamworth and then was well out of the market at Dubbo and raced accordingly. This suits better and he's in the mix. Stablemate BROADCAST BOOGIE (5) showed a lot more in the same race and finally draws a low gate. She won't be far away.
SELECTIONS: Going with Prizuga each-way.
KYNETON: RACE 5 @ 3:30 PM
Good race for the rising stars in the saddle. MASKED MARAUDER (3) was a fresh-up winner then midfield last time in heavy ground at Bendigo. Better than that and will sit handy in the run. Worth another chance. SHAALUTE (1) raced on speed last time and wasn't far away in tougher company at Sandown Hillside. Has a low draw and will give a sight again. AYSGARTH (2) is fitter for two runs back and ran a much better race last time. Fitter again and did place last time in when third-up. Looks a major player. HEADSTOCK (7) boxed on well fresh after sitting handy in the run and strips fitter. Tricky gate but rates well here on best figures. AFFIRMATIVE LAD (5) has been racing well. Nicely drawn and will wind up strongly.
SELECTIONS: Masked Marauder can bounce back.
ROCKHAMPTON: RACE 6 @ 5:40 PM
Wiggins sticks aboard PEPPERDINE (1) and the Pierro gelding is the one to beat building on his 4.6L win at Mackay over this trip. He has the early speed to manage the awkward gate and is a 2x winner third-up. ONE THING COUNTS (3) presents fitter for the sharp Clinton Taylor yard and was only beaten 1L here last time in stronger grade. He's won third-up and Butler will give him every chance from an inside barrier. PEAKING TOM (8) draws the inside barrier and gets back in his races. With average luck he's going well enough to get into the finish. PREPOTENT (2) won a 70 here two back and wasn't far away last time over shorter. Maps for a soft run on the quick back-up and is well in the mix.
SELECTIONS: Backing Pepperdine.
YORK: RACE 3 @ 6:00 PM
FAYOLA BABY (5) comes through a couple of handy trials in readiness for this. She has plenty of upside and was only 2.3L off the winner in Maiden company first-up last campaign. She looks well-placed at this level and appears to be the one to beat. RAINLINE (4) looks poised to strike third-up into the campaign following a 2.1L defeat most recently at Belmont as favourite. She now lands here with Faithfull in the saddle and the chance to sit a little closer than she has done in recent efforts. Can land the knockout blow. URQUHARTS BLUFF (2) drops back to this level today after holding his own on a Heavy deck at Belmont in a CL3. That form has worked out alright and getting back on top of the ground looks a positive for him. Can make his presence felt. MAVIS MYRTLE (8) is better than she showed last time out and can improve back in trip. WORK HOME FRONT (3) has claims of a good trial coming into this.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Fayola Baby.
