Today’s Horse Racing Tips - 1st October 2025

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for October 01.

Australian thoroughbred TAB meeting are today held at Rosehill, Sandown, Eagle Farm, Balaklava and Geraldton.

ROSEHILL: RACE 3 @ 3:35 PM

MERGEILA (1) had not raced for almost a year so her effort to win by three lengths over 1250m at Canterbury three weeks back was remarkable. Waller puts a 3kg claimer on in place of McDonald which brings her in well. Should make her own luck up front and looks the one to beat again. RAPBIDASH (5) travelled behind Mergelia but was left in her wake when they clashed recently. Both should improve at their second runs back so the three-length margin might be too great to bridge. Still looks the principal threat. TRAFALGAR SQUARE (8) has run out of chances after a poor effort over 1100m at Canterbury last time. More suited at this trip but is best used as a trifecta/first four inclusion. LET'S FLY (2) resumes. Will be better for the run but can sneak into the bottom end of the frame. SNITZEL DANCER (9) scored a tough win on debut at Canterbury last start. Different kettle of fish today but does have plenty of scope for improvement.
SELECTIONS: Mergeila to win again.

SANDOWN-HILLSIDE: RACE 4 @ 3:45 PM

PRESSER (3) is going well without winning but looks to have found the right race in a BM78 that lacks a bit of depth. He stuck on gamely behind a smart winner at Caulfield last time out and only needs to hold that level to be going awfully close here. ACTA NON VERBA (7) is a handy type coming off a solid win at Seymour, getting the upper hand late with 60kg. He's always promised a bit and drops 8kg in the weights after Logan Bates' claim. He maps well again and should take beating. MR VIVACI (6) has been going okay without threatening and has each way claims. He's still lightly raced. SHOCKLETZ (4) is an interesting one. She won over 2500m at Flemington over the Winter and has good staying ability but the small field and barrier one in a dash home may not suit.
SELECTIONS: Presser to win.

EAGLE FARM: RACE 7 @ 4:28 PM

MAZIS (5) resumes and when last seen he impressed winning a CL1 at Doomben over a middle distance. He'd come off a try at Group level and brings two 1000m trial placings from Doomben. He was only beaten 1.6L at Doomben first up last preparation over 1350m and looks wound up for this. Draws low and Maloney is a key jockey engagement. CARNEGIE HILL (7) switched from Freedman's Sydney yard and lost on protest at Ipswich over 1680m. He's been freshened again and kept up to the mark with a Beaudesert trial placing. Has the ability and the 3kg claim brings him right into it. ROSSO LEVANTO (14) is an improver from the Vandyke stable. She followed a 7.5L Maiden win at the Sunshine Coast with a narrow defeat there in a 58. She's also been freshened and has trialled nicely. Has weight relief and deserves consideration. Ditto GELATIN (3), who peaks for the premier yard. He didn't have the best of it last time in stronger.
SELECTIONS: Mazis appeals.

BALAKLAVA: RACE 2 @ 2:20 PM

GOOD EXPECTATIONS (11) was well backed on debut and, after missing the start and settling back, was very good to the line, finding one better. With the benefit of race experience and from a good draw, she can improve and win. SIMPLY SID (2) is coming off a career-best run here last start. This is no harder and Pannell goes on, which is a plus. He can provide some resistance. MALDIVICA (12) tackled some strong races as a 2YO, which suggests connections have an opinion of her. She looks well placed back in maiden grade and there is every reason to think she can run a forward race first-up. VILLA MARIA (4) can run well, while CANNES (10) is a debutant that is worth some thought after showing glimpses of ability at the trials.
SELECTIONS: Backing Good Expectations to win.

GERALDTON: RACE 6 @ 3:52 PM

SNIPPY WHICH (3) resumes as a gelding today. He never fired a shot in much stronger company at the end of his last campaign, but his two trials this time in work have been very impressive. Looks ready to fire first-up back in grade. UNDER INFLUENCE (2) hasn't been himself in recent races, though he drops right back to Country level today and he is a course and distance winner previously. The 3kg claim comes in handy and the slight rise in trip doesn't appear an issue. Can bounce back to his best. PRINCE RAGNAR (4) disappointed most recently but he started this campaign in good form on the dirt at Carnarvon. He boasts a strong record at this track however and he'll carry no weight after the claim of O'Donnell. He can't be discounted. ONEMORETWOMANY (5) drops right back in grade today as he resumes for the new barn. Form last campaign is good enough to be knocking off a race like this. PATCHWORK (7) can fire first-up and is a track and trip winner previously.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Snippy Which.
