Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for September 19.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meeting are today held at Newcastle, Ballarat, Townsville and Canberra.
NEWCASTLE: RACE 8 @ 5:20 PM
BROK CAFE (5) had a 45-day break before finishing a close fourth in a similar race here last start. Bullock sticks - he has a phenomenal 41% strike rate for this stable. Strips fitter and draws in a bit closer so a long-awaited fourth career win looks on the cards. SURREAL I AM (10) came from last on the corner to finish a neck behind Brok Cafe when they clashed here over today's distance 24 days ago. Likely improver off that run. No placings in six appearances at this venue is the main knock. MAGIC PHAROAH (15) came with a mighty run but just ran out of time over the mile at Canberra recently. Up in class but gets some nice weight relief and from a good draw makes plenty of appeal. THINK WE'RE THERE (2) beat a couple of today's key rivals home when resuming in a comparable race to this last start. Track specialist who just needs luck from a poor gate to be in the finish. Lightly raced mare CHRISTA (4) is performing well in town and is certainly up to winning a race of this calibre.
SELECTIONS: Backing Brok Cafe.

BALLARAT: RACE 8 @ 5:00 PM
RUNNING BY (4) posted a big relative number missing a whisker in a Flemington 100 behind Zou Sensation and then raced at Stakes level in Adelaide and didn't appreciate the wet track, disappointing behind Cafe Millenium (vet cleared). Winning rider John Allen is reunited, and she's suited stepping up to the mile. Finds the right race. HARD TO CROSS (3) found a place in an 84 at Flemington and then was better again winning an Open 4 at The Valley over this distance. Egan replaces the 3kg apprentice and will roll forward. A chance. Ditto GREEN FLY (5) going on his narrow defeat at Flemington two back in the Running By race. Forgive the latest when he settled too far back. FORGOT YOU (2) has been giving away starts but is knocking on the door, and Shinn sticking aboard is a decent push for his chances.
SELECTIONS: Going with Running By.
TOWNSVILLE: RACE 5 @ 3:34 PM
OUT OF LUCK (2) has grown a leg since joining the new stable with two wins and a placing from just three starts and will be at peak fitness for this fourth-up. Gets gun hoop Wiggins on board from the favourable draw and another strong showing would not surprise. CONVERTOR (7) loves it here on his home circuit with two wins and eight placings from 16 spins. Should be able to sit up on speed and will give backers a sight. MORDECAI (5) doesn't win out of turn but is usually thereabouts and is a must for the multiples. AL RAS BLUES (6) is a winner over this mile journey and only needs some luck navigating from the sticky alley to be playing a role in the finish. JOE'S GIGGLE (1) is a last-start winner who shouldn't be slept on.
SELECTIONS: Out Of Luck to salute.
CANBERRA: RACE 6 @ 4:25 PM
TAKE THE RAP (5) didn't have the best of it in a 72 at Warwick Farm, beaten 2.8L. He just missed on the Acton synthetic prior in Open grade heavily bet. He can stalk the speed from the inside barrier, and presenting at peak fitness, he's the one to beat. EXTRAVAGENT LAD (2) resumes and has won 3/6 fresh. Has won this course/distance, and he owns a recent trial placing at the track. McDougall's booking suggests he's pleasing the stable. MOGO MAGIC (4) resumes and also flies fresh. He's fast and has metropolitan form that stacks right up. No surprise to see him in the finish. VELLA'S BEST (8) will skip over to the speed and tumbles in weight off his 2L win in a Moruya CL3. That brings him into it, and he can give a sight.
SELECTIONS: Backing Take The Rap.
