Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for September 10.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meeting are today held at Canterbury, Ipswich,
Balaklava, Sandown-Hillside and Belmont Park.
CANTERBURY: RACE 1 @ 1:35 PM
In a race that feels more like a provincial maiden, recent Waller acquisition GOLDEN CENTURY (3) has the quality to break through. Sent out favourite but has come up short in both runs this prep at or around the mile. NZ Derby placegetter last season so this step up in trip is ideal. Should prove too good for these. HAMMOON HEROINE (6) has caught the eye over shorter trips in her two runs to date, both at the provincials. Two siblings have made it to the races and both placed at black type level overseas. Expect there is more to come. THE BIG BLUE (4) made it three minor placings from three runs since coming back from an extended lay-off when third over 1500m at Newcastle recently. Fitter for that outing, the first in 46 days, and on breeding this longer trip will suit. FARRAIGE (2) on a three-day back-up is probably not a winning chance but has placed four from seven at the distance so one for the exotics. EXTRA POWER (1) ran a better race last start and can improve further.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Golden Century.

IPSWICH: RACE 1 @ 1:18 PM
The well-related SOME STYLE (5) (half to G1 winner Peeping) has been knocking on the door of a maiden victory, finishing runner-up at her past four starts and this is not an overly strong affair. Only needs some luck getting across from the wide draw to be playing a major role in the outcome. Former Victorian CHICAGO KING (1) just missed the placings when having his first local run and will have come on with that effort now in the locker. Gets plenty of weight relief with the 3kg claim and looms as the main danger. KICKUPHIGH (10) had been plying her trade in harder races before the spell and should find this assignment a touch easier. Can run a race while fresh. MARKMEN (7) is facing the starter for the first time but is sure to be up to the mark out of the Waller barn and any market confidence must be noted.
SELECTIONS: Some Style to get a well-deserved victory.
BALAKLAVA: RACE 7 @ 3:45 PM
Suspect that ENCIPHERING (1) is the best horse in the race and, back to this grade with the 3kg claim, he'll get his chance to win again. His best form is superior to his rivals and, with the right run from a middle draw, he'll be finishing over the top. MANDINO (3) looks a danger if he can return to something like his best. His recent form is a bit patchy and he's hard to trust. GREATESTOFEASE (10) draws the inside and is open to improvement at his second start in South Australia. He can definitely finish in the money. RETOURNE (2) is racing well and is worth some thought for exotics, while THE TRUE BELIEVER (4) is rock hard fit and racing well in this distance range so deserves to be spoken about as a chance too.
SELECTIONS: Backing Enciphering to win.
SANDOWN-HILLSIDE: RACE 8 @ 5:15 PM
FIDDLERS GREEN (11) is right up to this and reckon his chances on the impressive 1L defeat on the Lakeside two starts back. He has a soft draw and will carry just 53kg this grade with the claim. He's still well shy of his best and has decent each way claims. HE'LL RIP (9) was back to his best beaten 1.9L behind Justadeel on the Lakeside. He was disappointed for clear running in the straight and would have likely threatened. Has some weight relief and deserves another chance. RAIKOKE (5) rates strongly and is back in grade. He should appreciate the longer sprint and Lane's booking is a decent push for his chances. TRIAL BY PRESS (10) has raced in 78s her last two and the Caulfield placing last time was a nice effort. Maps for the run of the race and Williams (replacing Lane) will give her every chance. OUR COUVER (13) gets in light and has turf figures that would see her very competitive.
SELECTIONS: Playing Fiddlers Green each way.
BELMONT PARK: RACE 7 @ 5:30 PM
SWIFT TALKER (7) was an impressive winner on debut at Northam, scoring by 1.4L in Heavy going. The track will be a little firmer today and he gets the tongue tie applied this time. Likely to settle back in the field but with improvement likely now, he's an attractive proposition. TALK TO WYN (2) got the job done last start at Northam over 1300m and steps right up in distance for the first time today. The claim of Cooper sees him in nicely at the weights and the inside draw should see him get every chance. THE ROOSTER (8) is building nicely this campaign and he's not to be discounted. WORCESTER (1) is better than he showed last time out and can bounce back to form with Pike on board.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Swift Talker in the last.
