Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for July 23.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meeting are today held at Canterbury, Sandown, Eagle Farm, Murray Bridge and Pinjarra.
CANTERBURY: RACE 3 @ 2:00 PM
Promising Waller-trained filly KILONOVA (4) resumed here over 1200m a fortnight ago and looked like getting the chocolates only to be outgunned on the line. Fitter for that run and nicely placed over this slightly shorter trip. Clearly the one to beat. Consistent gelding MAL COUPE (5) has earned his crack in town after four fine performances this time in work, the latest a tidy win in a BM68 over this distance at Hawkesbury. Racing well under Winona Costin who retains the ride. Right in contention. OLUFSEN (3) has not appeared since scoring on debut over this trip at Wyong eighteen weeks ago. Two sound trials should have him primed for a positive return. Recent trial winner SHALAA GOLD (2) is a strong fresh performer who cannot be ruled out first-up from a six-month absence. MAQUISA (8) was strong through the line here last time. Placed four from seven and should be highly competitive again.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Kilonova.

SANDOWN-HILLSIDE: RACE 4 @ 2:10 PM
SILVER CLIFF (3) is flying and can bring up a hat-trick of wins. She's notched up a pair of BM70 wins, one here and on the Lakeside track, beating a handy one last time out in good time. Finds another BM70 here and while up in weight again, she gets another smart 3kg claim and will take catching once more. HONOR GALORE (1) could be an improver, off a let-up for this. She found the 1000m too sharp when last seen but boasts some solid form around the 1200m trip and maps well here. HERE THE CROWD (6) was well in the market last start at Sandown Lakeside, not beaten far in a messy finish. She'd looked promising prior and can bounce back here. QUEEN OF TUSCANY (2) is back in trip and can be strong late. SELECTIONS: Silver Cliff to win.
EAGLE FARM: RACE 3 @ 1:43 PM
It's hard to fault the form of JENCHICK BOOM (1) who has only missed a drum once in eight career efforts and rarely puts in a poor one. Gets the benefit of Lang's 1.5kg claim and another strong showing would not surprise. LONE ARTIST (4) was a dominant Rockhampton winner last time out and will have derived a stack of confidence from that victory. Can go right on with the job now. VELOZES (5) has gotten better with each run this time in and will be ready to peak now fourth-up from the break. Don't dismiss lightly from the Gollan camp. RASHFORD (3) gets 3kg off from the favourable draw and can improve enough to feature in the finish. PIERRE CARDINNIGAN (2) strips fitter second-up from the spell and may earn some minor money.
SELECTIONS: Backing Jenchick Boom.
MURRAY BRIDGE: RACE 6 @ 3:35 PM
Good little race with some progressive types set to fight it out. One of them is GOLD SPIRIT (14), who is coming out of a hot race. He was no match for Noetzie but he wasn't disgraced and this looks much easier. He's run well at the track and distance, is drawn well and gets a handy claim. He ticks a few boxes and can win. HOOKED ON WEALTH (6) showed nice improvement between runs and is ready to hit his straps third up. He's placed in two of his three runs over this track/distance. If you forgive the last start failure of SHIMSHALAR (7), his prior form is solid and gives him an each-way chance. Including SIOUX WARRIOR (4) and WHOOPS A DAISY (12) in wider plays.
SELECTIONS: Backing Gold Spirit to win.
PINJARRA: RACE 2 @ 2:29 PM
ASPHALT (1) seeks the hat trick off spacious, heavily-supported wins over 1400m. He just missed his only start over a mile, and despite the weight increase he should have these well-covered. MASTER TACTICIAN (4) improved again when winning at Bunbury and then found a heavy track there, and the wide barrier didn't help either. He can sit closer today, and a much better effort is likely. CANNY JACK (5) spiked his figures narrowly beaten at Pinjarra. It was a big effort after settling last, and he is back in grade. Doubt the inside barrier will assist, but he can make the frame if things go his way. BEST MOOD (3) has some decent numbers over sprints. He's given away big starts in his two runs this preparation and may be looking for this trip now.
SELECTIONS: Asphalt is hard to go past.
