RANDWICK July 11

Randwick A Grass; Soft 6

13 Heats – 1 x 1200m (Open); 6 x 1050m (2 Open; 3 2YO; 1 3YO); 6 x 742m (5 2YO; 1 3YO)

It's that time of the year when late season 2YO trials point to early 3YO winners.

LOVE STORY (Waterhouse/Bott): Impressive debut trial by this Justify filly, showing excellent natural pace to dominate her 742m heat from start to finish (44.12; 33.60). Should take great benefit from the experience.

RAJWA (Michael Freedman): Unraced I Am Invincible youngster improved off his first two trials in March to put his stamp on his 742m heat (44.16; 33.60), sitting four wide outside the lead before taking the upper hand and extending for a dominant win over his stablemate DECORUM. Both should be followed with interest.

ROSELYN'S STAR (O'Shea/Charlton): Hasn't been seen at the races for 15 months but there is no doubt this 3YO gelding by Shalaa has plenty of ability. Showed potential in his early starts and has now won his two well-spaced trials since May. In this 742m heat he had plenty to offer never coming off the bit to win under a hold in the fastest time of the session (42.69; 32.57).

VALEDICTORIAN (Michael Freedman): Strong Zoustar colt is typical of a youngster who will improve sharply on what he showed earlier in the season. The leaders flew over the first 600m in his 1050m heat so it was no surprise to see them gassed late as they were overwhelmed by the closers. This colt was six lengths back on the fence and had to ease across the heels of four leaders to get clear running at the 200m before surging to the line with a touch of class for a soft win (63.81; 35.42).

There were numerous other good trials in the 2YO heats including the winners KOIBITO, THE PLAYWRIGHT, DARING FELLOW and COBRA CLUB.

NOTED TRIALS

NEWCASTLE July 9

Beaumont Grass; Soft 7

13 Heats – 1 x 1200m (Open); 5 x 1000m (2 Open; 2 2YO; 1 Maiden); 7 x 800m (1 Open; 3 2YO; 3 Maiden)

Good trials from some smart youngsters with bright futures.

CANTIAMO (Kris Lees): SHAGGY, the youngster who won three straight by dominant margins before starting favourite in the G2 Skyline Stakes, showed nice improvement off a recent first-up trial to win this 800m heat in good style (47.68; 34.34). However it was the effort of the runner-up CANTIAMO that really took the eye as this Too Darn Hot filly worked to the line in great style from the back half in her first trial since February. She impressed making her debut at Randwick in December but an obvious hiccup saw her miss the autumn. Sure to be winning races on what she showed here.

COPPERLINE (Scott Singleton): The clock doesn't lie with this Sebring Sun gelding showing great natural pace to run away with his 2YO heat by more than four lengths in the fastest of the seven heats over 800m (46.88; 34.16). Came off two good trials at Scone and should be well placed in a suitable late season maiden.

NOTED TRIALS

XX Cantiamo; Copperline

X Cuban Cigar; Dalmanndi; Dietrich; Fast Blue; Love Goddess; Magurtz; Shaggy; Tapagal

Nothing to excite from a standard session on a heavy track.
