If class counts for anything, Just Party could be a horse to watch over the summer.
Few horses competing at Rosehill this Saturday will boast the profile of Just Party, albeit his racing pattern has made winning races difficult.
The four-year-old was Stakes-placed behind Broadsiding at two, finished less than a length from Lady Shenandoah in Group company at three, and was narrowly defeated in in last year's Tapp-Craig (1400m) and Callander-Presnell (1600m).
However, his record reads just one win from 14 starts as his backmarker style of racing means he needs a genuine tempo and luck in the run.
On ability alone, co-trainer Gerald Ryan says there are few sharper horses in the stable.
"If you want him to, nothing will run a better sectional than him," Ryan said.
While Just Party has been competitive in stakes company for most of his career, Ryan has lowered the bar this preparation in the hope of improving his strike-rate.
The gelding will chase his second win in a $160,000 benchmark 94 handicap over 1400m and Ryan plans to keep him in similar grade this summer.
"There are a few of these benchmark races coming up in the next month," Ryan said.
"I think there's three he can run in, so he'll be aimed at them, and we'll just try to get some stake money."
Just Party will be second-up after closing late for fifth to Brave One in a leader dominated race at Newcastle earlier this month.
It followed two unplaced runs during the Brisbane winter carnival when he wasn't suited by a venue change for the Fred Best Classic (1400m) then didn't handle the shifty Eagle Farm track in the Gunsynd Classic (1600m).
"When the race meeting was called off at Eagle Farm and transferred to Doomben, Doomben wasn't his track and it was bad going," Ryan said.
"Then he went to Eagle Farm, Nash (Rawiller) rode him, and he wouldn't stretch out at Eagle Farm like a lot of horses.
"But he has come back well. His two trials were good, and his run at Newcastle was good."
There are no feature races at Rosehill, the first time since the season kicked off on August 2 that there hasn't been a Black Type or showcase event to headline a Saturday program in Sydney.
