After a meeting at the track two days earlier, thoroughbred action is back in Launceston on Friday night.
R1 Ladbrokes Odds Surge Maiden, 1100m
The Trine (2) ran on strongly resuming then led and faded last time as an odds-on favourite. Strikes a moderate maiden here and is one of the leading chances. ROYAL SCENE (6) returns from a break and looms as the main threat. Her best run to date was first up last preparation. She got back that day after suffering interference at the start and made good late ground. GLADDING (8) was far from disgraced on debut behind a smart winner and now gets winkers for the first time. AFFIRMATIONS (3) is worth consideration for first 4's along with the debutante WHEELEWE (7) who has trialled respectably.
Staking Strategy: The Trine the obvious but had its chance last start and have priced it longer than the market. The resuming Royal Scene each-way looks a better option. 1 unit each-way ROYAL SCENE (6).
R2 Ttmi Machinery Maiden, 1400m
Regal Hunter (4) was surprisingly soft in the betting on debut but ran very well. He hit the line strongly from a midfield position and was the best of the beaten brigade. The 1400m looks perfect. KNIGHTS REIGN (2) was never going to be suited dropping back sharply in trip last start and then was posted wide throughout from a bad gate. Far better suited here over the 1400m and has the inside draw this time. EAGLEFURTHER (5) was solid last time in a deeper race behind Skelmorlie but her overall record is poor. SILVER GRANGE (8) is better than what she showed last time – was mostly wide and no cover – the rise in trip should be a positive. ROUSING LEVI (7) battled away evenly on debut and another that will appreciate getting over more ground.
Staking Strategy: Regal Hunter was a black-booker on debut and no surprise he's all the rage in what is a moderate maiden. 6 units to win REGAL HUNTER (4).
R3 Tas Breeders Life Member Owen & Sandra Atkins C1 Hcp, 1400m
Respite (1) looks one of the hardest to beat. Dominant winner at Devonport 2 runs back. Then no favours last time after covering ground but kept on tough to the line. The one that beat her ran very well on Wednesday night. STREETFIGHTER VEGA (3) got his maiden out of the way 2 runs back then was never in the hunt at Moonee Valley. On debut was competitive in the Gold Sovereign. That's outstanding form for this. SKY EAGLE (5) took the short way home and charged to the line last week in a decent class 1 race. Each-way chance. MISS TERASITA (7) was only a couple of lengths off Respite first up. Strips fitter and extra ground will suit. BOUNTY BAY (6) next best, drawn to advantage, first-4 contender.
Staking Strategy: No shock to see the money come for Streetfighter Vega since the markets went up. He brings the right form from last season. Predictably, the top 3 in the betting dominate the market. 2 units to win STREETFIGHTER VEGA (3).
R4 Tas Breeders Life Member Jenny Watson C1 Hcp, 1200m
Mazzini (2) could not have been any more impressive winning on debut. He romped home at Devonport by 7.5 lengths. Was tipped out straight away and is first up here off a 4-month break. The one to beat. DAYTONA DIVA (6) the obvious second pick and also has her share of ability. Plenty of merit in her maiden victory at Hobart, overcoming a wide gate. Brilliant trial winner at Longford. Was under a big hold all the way. Those 2 will dominate the betting and look classes above. HALEN (1), SNOW MAIDEN (3) and GEEGEES LEGACY (5) next best for exotics.
Staking Strategy: Mazzini was a brilliant maiden winner and Daytona Diva also impressed on debut. They dominate the betting. Have marked Mazzini on top but not quite as short as the $1.30 currently on offer. Will have something small on Daytona Diva at the better odds. Looks a lock to run top 2. 1 unit win , 2 units place DAYTONA DIVA (6).
R5 Ttc Members Class 4, 1200m
Rubble 'N' Fudd (1) is making steady progress and looks ready now third run back. Bumped into an in-form Mastretta last time who chased home Crack The Shutters on Wednesday night. SKY LAND (4) continues to race well. Held up on the turn last start. Not sure she would have won but would've made it interesting. Senior rider goes on. NGAPALI BEACH (6) was a good effort here first up behind Geegees Missile. Struck trouble at the start and got well back but finished off strongly. GEMS EAGLE (5) is returning from a 8-month break. Both wins last preparation were over 1400m but is more than capable fresh. RICH GLOW (3) and POPILITA (7) strip fitter, first 4 chances.
Staking Strategy: Rubble'n'fudd should be ready now 3rd up. Keeping Ngapali Beach on side, was a good effort resuming. 2 units to win RUBBLE 'N' FUDD (1) . 1 unit to win NGAPALI BEACH (6).
R6 Field Family Bm60 Hcp, 1100m
Stars In The Night (6) looks the obvious one to lead from barrier 1. First up tonight since July but she did win first up last prep at Devonport. COOL HEART (4) had every possible last start but that was a deeper race. Stablemates WARICA (2) and POWER MAGNUM (8) are always competitive at this level. OHSHE'STROUBLE (5) had excuses at Devonport, forced to cover ground from the wide gate, she battled on okay. Bad gate again but now has a senior rider. NAZORIAN (9) chased a hot tempo resuming and compounded, fitter for it.
Staking Strategy: Low confidence race, nothing would totally shock. Small wager on the likely leader Stars In The Night from the good gate. 1 unit to win STARS IN THE NIGHT (6).
R7 Tas Breeders Life Member Graeme Mcculloch C4 Hcp, 1600m
Purr Sefanee (7) is better placed here in a claiming race and meets ONLY OLD ONCE (2) significantly better at the weights for a narrow defeat last start. MILES 'N' MILES (4) is flying. Charged home first up and it was a rinse and repeat effort second up. TUSKEGEE (1) was never on the track last time behind Fast Thinker. Did a good job to finish as close as he did. Back in trip no issue and draws to advantage. SISTER ROYAL (3) continues to meet every challenge, 3 straight wins now since arriving from the mainland and can't be taken lightly. NIGHT ACTION (6) had every chance last time, up in grade here but down in weight.
Staking Strategy: Pure Sefanee is better suited under the conditions of this race, couldn't claim last time, is holding her form well , tough to run down. Miles 'n' Miles can get over the top if run to suit. 2 units to win PURR SEFANEE (7) and MILES 'N' MILES (4).
R8 Tas Breeders Life Member Robyn Whishaw Bm60 Hcp, 1400m
Was a tough watch for those that backed Baybougg (5) last start. Never saw clear air in the straight and she did look to have plenty to offer. WILLINGLY (3) will be more competitive at this trip. Was okay first up after being slowly away. Unbeaten this track and distance. NO ACCESS (4) and MYWORDIS (2) crossed the line together in one of these races a fortnight ago. Each-way claims again. CRAZY ATOM (7) was wide all the way last time and stayed on soundly. GEE GEES ME BOY (1) was just fair resuming and record second-up isn't flash.
Staking Strategy: Have to stick with Baybougg and hopefully she enjoys a better run in transit tonight than last time. 4 units to win BAYBOUGG (5).
