As expected, the Champ de Mars was bustling with activity this morning, both on the sand and turf tracks, with 112 horses completing fast workouts under glorious weather conditions. A strong number of racegoers were also present to witness the action.
Two Barrier Trials were contested on the turf track, both claimed by the Selvom Mootien-trained pair of Pai Mei and Unzen.
· 1st Barrier Trial: Pai Mei jumped smartly alongside Future Frequency, while Grande Rosalie was slow to begin. Pai Mei soon asserted his authority and strode to a comfortable victory. Grande Rosalie, urged along with the whip, did well to finish second, while Future Frequency was 3rd.
· 2nd Barrier Trial: Unzen had no issues in exerting his authority, leading from start to finish in a commanding display. Catcha Dragon had to settle for second, just ahead of Paved With Gold.
Several horses caught the eye during their preparations, especially those set to run this Saturday:
· Allez Moris – Following his impressive Barrier Trial last week, he impressed again over 1000m with a powerful turn of foot.
· Courtly – Last-start winner, he looked sharp and bright in solo work, indicating he remains in top order.
· Captain Bombshell – Widely expected to feature in this Saturday's 1365m main event, he had Rye Joorawon up and a drop-noseband fitted. Sparring against Lunafacation, he pulled away strongly past the winning post.
· Tyrion Lannister – Consistently sparkling in training, he once again showed satisfaction over 800m and is expected to make his much-awaited debut this Saturday.
· Havana Moon & Mind Map – Brilliant winners on Duchess Of York Cup day, they remain in fine condition, clocking eye-catching times this morning.
Among those who also impressed in their gallops were Sun Blushed, San Andreas, Prime Example, The Mauritian, Vartacus, Krim, Anderson, Solomon's Seal and Master Of Mystery.
