Staking Strategy: Hobart - Sunday, 10th August 2025 (Updated)

The Tasmanian Racing Club in Hobart host their first meeting of 2025/26 with an eight-race card on Sunday.

Picture: Tasracing.com.au

After heavy rain resulted in a wet track a fortnight ago, the conditions should be drier this week, with the track likely in the 5-6 range.

The rail is in the true position, last used here for the meeting on 22 June.

R1 Winning Edge Presentations Maiden, 1600m

Siena Wolf (8) has been trying to win her maiden for a while. This is a very winnable race. Nothing wrong with the effort last week at Launceston when unable to build momentum at a key stage. TALK SOON (10) ran better than expectations last outing when jumping sharply from the 1100m to the 1600m. Was no match at all for the top 3 but she stayed on soundly. NO MORE ROCKS (5) was set a task second -up stepping out to 2100m and was never a factor. Rock solid here the run prior this distance and will get every chance from the good gate. SKELMORLIE (9) finished just out of the placings at Launceston week but was given every possible. She's very one-paced, extra trip is a definite plus.

Staking Strategy: Siena Wolf was good last week, strikes a moderate maiden, can go one better. 3 units to win SIENA WOLF (8)

R2 Kevin Sharkie Maiden, 1100m

Geegees Missile (12) resumes and was placed at all 3 runs in her 2yo season, has drawn to advantage, strikes a winnable race. NUNKERI (13) battled on soundly first up in a good form race, each-way chance. LIGHT FORCE (3) has shown glimpses and been placed here on 3 occasions, maps for a good run resuming. WANNABE ZIGGY (11) struck a heavy track returning off a break and finished off okay after being tightened at the start and settling too far back. SORELL LAD (5) gave a huge start and ran on very strongly in the same race. OUTBUSH's (4) last start failure on the heavy was forgivable when well supported, needs luck though from the wide draw. LUNA LINDT (7) and SEDNA (8) are new arrivals bringing moderate mainland form. TRIBAL COUNCIL (6) has drawn poorly, rough first 4 chance.

Staking Strategy: There's plenty of positives around Geegees Missile. She brings strong form from last season, has trialled well, and maps for a good run. 3 units to win GEEGEES MISSILE (12).

R3 Rogerson & Birch Surveyors C2 Hcp, 1100m

Mel's Street Above (5) is fresh out of maiden grade leading all the way in good time. The second placed out of that race Alpine Fury bolted in by 5l at her next start. Jumps straight to a class 2 race. MASTRETTA (1) resumes and showed plenty of ability in her 3yo season, trials have been sharp, battling effort at her only start at Hobart. RAWABI (2) made easy work of the wide gate leading all the way to win his maiden here 21-days ago. Another one that jumps straight to a class 2 race. AMANT FRANCAIS (3) resumes and was an emphatic winner before a break at Devonport, lightly raced, plenty of upside. MATERIAL MADAM (4) returned in good order 14-days ago winning on the heavy ground, faces a tougher task.

Staking Strategy: Several have a case including Mel's Street Above. There was a bit to like about her maiden win and there's been plenty of form out of the race. 1 unit to win MEL'S STREET ABOVE (5)

R4 Ladbrokes Srm In Multis C1 Hcp, 1200m

Magic Mogul (1) has been solid on the synthetic but might be a better horse on the turf. He won his Benalla maiden easily by 3l. VIXEN'S MOON (3) did enough first up in a good race and without a lot of room in the straight. KENSINGTON DIVA (4) has a couple of trial wins under his belt and might be an improver this tome around. SWANNY DEE's (2) only win was on a genuine heavy at Warrnambool, check market with him at first local start.       CAPTAIN TAZ (5), RARE ORO (9) and RAINBOW ALLEY (6) wider hopes.

Staking Strategy: Low confidence race. Magic Mogul is top pick but is short enough. Kensington Diva has trialled nicely and looks a little bit of value resuming. 1 unit to win KENSINGTON DIVA (4)

R5 Life Member Dr Michael Loughhead C2 Hcp, 1600m

Island Warrior (1) is building up to a win and gets a handy claim third run back. Close to peak fitness now. SNOW EAGLE (4) had all the favours to score resuming but is suited rising in trip and will be tough to beat again. CARNELIAN ROCK (7) is racing consistently and his last win was this track and distance. Will get every possible chance from the good gate. VALIANT KHAN (6) was close up last start and should be around the money again while MANHATTAN NIGHTS (3) has been in good form on the synthetic and presents fresh off a 28-day break. Just the one placing at this venue though from 5 starts.

Staking Strategy: Island Warrior is progressing well this preparation and looks set to strike third run back. 1 unit to win ISLAND WARRIOR (1)

R6 Aviso Tas Insurance Brokers C6, 1390m

Alvarinho (4) ran extremely well behind the in-form Wineglass Bay last outing. Strikes an easier race. SILVER DAGGER (6) can rebound off a failure on unsuitable ground. She was flying prior to striking heavy going last outing. CARTOON GRAVEYARD (1) has a bit off a challenge with 59kg first up but can't entirely be ruled out given his record this track and trip. DUSTLAND FAIRYTALE (7) might measure up at her first local start but usually performs better on genuine affected ground. Check betting. RUBBLEONTHEDOUBLE (5) can improve but may need one more. The first up run was forgivable on heavy ground. MAKE A DECISION (3) next best.

Staking Strategy: Alvarinho looks a great chance third up and have marked her favourite ahead of Silver Dagger who can clearly improve back onto firmer footing. 2 units to win ALVARINHO (4).

R7 Life Member Kevin Sharkie Bm72 Hcp, 1000m

Zany Girl (4) returns from a spell after enjoying plenty of success in her 2yo season. Unbeaten at Hobart from 3 starts she has trialled sharply and looks ready to go first up. JEHBENTI (2) the main danger, has been in great form for the new stable winning his past two. PERIWINKLE (8) has had a consistent preparation without winning and is always dangerous this track and trip. FEAR THE STING (7) is on the quick back-up, a wider chance for first 4's along with NAVAL ANTHEM (5) who has changed stables since last start and maps for a good trail behind the speed.

Staking Strategy: This is a good test for the 2yo form from last season. Zany Girl hardly put a foot wrong first prep, am expecting the form to stack up. 6 units to win ZANY GIRL (4)

R8 Ladbrokes Form Genius Bm68 Hcp, 2200m

Tahitian Warrior (5) showed good improvement fourth run in and appreciated getting back onto the grass. Has a good strike-rate at Hobart and enjoys nice weight relief on the quick turn-around. HAPPY CLAN (2) is fit and in form and chasing back-to -back wins. SUGOI LEGEND (3) covered too much ground last outing and gets a handy claim. GEE GEE MISS QUITA (1) ran on strongly this trip last time and is ready now. MATEUS (4) finished just out of the placings last week, is hard fit and drops in weight whilst ALPINE KATE (6) can improve on firmer ground.

Staking Strategy: Tahitian Warrior was good last week facing the breeze at Launceston and can go one better in what is a very competitive race to end the day, 2 units to win TAHITIAN WARRIOR (5)
