We look back and all the key RAS ratings from Caulfield Guineas day.
Might And Power Stakes – Globe
It was a tactical masterclass from Blake Shinn aboard Globe to beat the fancied duo of Treasurethe Moment and Buckaroo, running a solid new peak of 118 at Racing And Sports in the process, up from 112.
The sectionals are fascinating here, because he took his time to come across and find the lead as expected over the first 600m, going relatively quickly to do so and establish his position before slowing drastically in the mid stages.
Part of the damage was done in that first 600m, which allowed Shinn to slow down without being taken on.
Between the 1400m and 800m, the second 600m portion of the race, he's run a total time of 37.92, while Treasurethe Moment has gone 37.32 (approximately six lengths slower) and Buckaroo 37.15, nearly eight lengths slower than Globe.
Despite this slow down, neither Damian Lane on Treasurethe Moment or James McDonald on Buckaroo elected to put the pressure on to Globe and take that horse on, instead allowing Blake Shinn to maintain the lead and get a good breather.
Just as the jockeys in behind started to catch up, Shinn then slowly starts to increase his pace at about the 700m to ensure Lane and J-Mac wouldn't think about going past him, getting to the 450m mark and sprinting hard, forcing the others to maintain that stronger gallop they'd started just to catch up, which then told late as they faltered over the final 200m.
It was outstanding work by Shinn and once again just reiterated the Racing And Sports motto of 'pace over position', with the others happy to play to the pre-decided map rather than pace their race as efficiently as possible.
Regardless, the ones behind were disappointing and it'll be hard to take Treasurethe Moment into a Cox Plate. I don't think a weight-for-age 2000m is her best trip and even as a three-year-old, her clear best rating was in a Kewney at 1600m.
If I were Matt Laurie, I'd be freshening her up and going to the Champions Mile.
Globe will hopefully be a much-needed pace addition to the Cox Plate, a race that seemingly needs it on paper. A rating of 118 is well below the Cox Plate winning standard, which takes a minimum of 125 to win.
At 118, this ties Deny Knowledge for the equal-lowest rating Might And Power this century.

Caulfield Guineas – Autumn Boy
Autumn Boy gave Waller & Lane a second consecutive win in the Caulfield Guineas, emulating his sire The Autumn Sun who won the Guineas in 2018.
Autumn Boy hasn't quite reached that level on Saturday but is another to have run a clear new peak, going to 118 on the RAS scale (matching the Might And Power).
That isn't overly uncommon, with seven Caulfield Guineas winners equalling or bettering the Might And Power. They are as follows:
All Too Hard 128 > Ocean Park 125
Weekend Hussler 126 > Maldivian 124
Whobegotyou 126 > Douro Valley 120
Lonhro 125 > Northerly 124
God's Own 124 = El Segundo 124
Helmet 122 > Descarado 120
Anamoe 122 > Probabeel 119
In terms of Guineas winners, Autumn Boy matches Super Seth at 118 and beats out a few recent winners with Private Life (115), Griff (116) and Golden Mile (110) also on the list. The Autumn Sun went 122 in his 2018 win, as did Anamoe in 2021.
The pace was solid and true in the Guineas with Autumn Boy very efficiently paced in sixth on the inside. The ones settling in front of Autumn Boy have all returned a positive split, i.e. they've run faster early than late.
Given this good pace, I would've liked to see a touch more on the clock from the winner. They've run two thirds of a second slower than the Toorak which is approximately four lengths.
To counter that, Autumn Boy has carried 0.5kg more than Transatlantic and is a three-year-old. On the weight-for-age scale, the Guineas time figure comes out faster than the Toorak, but I think that's being a bit forgiving of the scale.
Measuring the Guineas against the Toorak has often been a strong guide as to how the three-year-olds measure up.
For example, last year Antino ran a full 1.5 seconds faster than Private Life, around nine lengths faster.
Go back to Anamoe in 2021. He ran just one length slower than I'm Thunderstruck who won the Toorak, and did it carrying 5kg more than that horse.
Griff won a weak Guineas, again coming in at 1.5 seconds slower than Attrition in the Toorak (nine lengths).
It can be pretty clear which Guineas winners can measure up in a Cox Plate or at weight-for-age next season. Four lengths slower than an average Toorak isn't something to get overly excited about. It's a similar difference when Ole Kirk won the Guineas and Mr Quickie won the Toorak.
Admittedly, we didn't see much more of the 115 rated Ole Kirk after that, and Autumn Boy at 118 is a bit better than that, but short-term, I couldn't have him in a Cox Plate if Waller did decide to run there (which is next to no chance anyway).
Observer was the obviously unlucky one in the Guineas and probably tests the winner, if not runs a clear second with better luck.
He seems to be on a Victoria Derby path and is into favourite for that race which makes sense. He's certainly bred to stay and now rated 110 (but probably closer to 116), he'll go in highly rated.
