It's time for the big boys and girls to line up for the big races.
The Goldikova over 1600m for f&m is the only Gr 3 with the rest all at Gr 1. Special Wan looks special and is on 2/1 here for Walsh-Rosario, with Deep Satin on 7/2 for Cherie de Vaux and I Ortiz, Medoro 6/1 for Eurton-Rispoli, Miguel Clement saddles Breath Away on 8/1 with Prat on board and a raider here in Temptable on 10/1 for Graffard-Barzalona.
The f&m Sprint over 1400m has 10 runners led by Sweet Azteca on 2/1 for Baltas – J. Hernandez, Tamara is on 7/2 for Mandela – Smith and the Baffart pair of Hope Road 4/1 with J Ortiz on board (not sure if it is named for Hope Road in Jamaica which is a main road in Kingston) and the Chilean-bred Richi on 5/1 with Saez riding.
The Turf Sprint is over 1000m with 12 runners and 4 reserves headed by Motorious on 7/1 for d'Amato-Fresu. Ag Bullet is on 4/1 for Baltas-Velazquez and the first of the raiders in Arizona Blaze for Adrian Murray and David Egan. Reef Runner and Shisospicey are on 6/1.
The Sprint 1200m on the dirt is pretty open with Bentornato on 5/2 for d'Amato- I Ortiz, Kopion 7/2 Mandela – Smith, Imagination 6/1 for Baffert – JJ Hernandez and one we quite like here in Straight No Chaser value on 8/1 – Blacker-Velazquez.
The Distaff is over 1800m dirt for f&m with Baffert's Seismic Beauty on 9/5 and Hernandez in the irons with one we like Nitrogen on 4/1 for Casse- J Ortiz and Dorth Vader 5/1 Weaver-Velzquez.
The B Turf over 2400m has a field of 14 and being turf is the go for the raiders and what a go it should be with a battle royal possible between O'Brien's Minnie Hauk 8/5 with Soumillon on board and Godolphin's Rebel's Romance Appleby-Buick on 5/2. Then there's Goliath who seems to be in top form on 8/1 for Graffard-Barzalona and we have to put him in because we love him Wimbledon Hawkeye on 20/1 Owen-Dettori. We have one for the resident feline too – Rebel Red – because he is also one eyed – lost an eye in a stable accident but is doing brilliantly on just the one peeper).
The Classic has lost Sovereignty owing to an elevated temperature and so we are now going for Japan to strike with Forever Young who is a fabulous horse – Yahagi-Sakai and now 9/2. Fierceness will probably start favourite with the home crowd support and is on 3/1 for Pletcher-Velazquez and we love Sierra Leone who will probably be retiring after this race and he's on the same quote for Brown-Prat.
The Mile on turf is always a tight contest between the locals and the raiders and this time Notable Speech is tied on favouritism with Rhetorical. The former is Appleby-Buick and the second going for a fifth consecutive win for Walker – I Ortiz. Then we go out to 8/1 for Johannes on 8/1 Yakteen-Rispoli and 10/1 Jonquil for Balding- Keane is not the worst by a long shot.
The dirt Mile had 10 runners led by Nyros on 8/5 for Baffert-Prat and the Argentinian-bred Full Serrano has lots of supporters both north and south of the border – on 7/2 for Sadler-Rosario, Mystik Dan who hasn't been at his best of late but should he be there would be huge value on 6/1. Goal Oriented is on the same quote, and there is a nice horse here Tumbarumba on 20/1 who has helped the trainer's wife through her battle with cancer.
The f&m Turf is over 2200m and has 14 f&m lining up. Gezora was reported to be in very good form before leaving France and provided she has travelled well the 7/2 looks good for Graffard-Barzalona. Godolphin's Cinderella's Dream is always thereabouts and is on 9/2 Appleby-Buick. The locals field She Feels Pretty for de Vaux Velazquez – she was 3rd in the Juvenile Fillies in 2024 and is going for a 6th Gr 1 win. Andrew Balding's See The Fire should be respected on 5/1 with Oisin Murphy riding.
Franke Dettori will be hanging up the boots after today but he's not leaving racing altogether, and a number of these runners will head to their future careers. The weather looks very good and the track will be fast.
