Sunday we move to the Curragh.
This is one of the top days of the year at the Curragh. The Group races start with the Moyglare Stud Stakes for 2yo fillies over a soft-to-yielding 1400m with 7 to run. Karl Burke is having a very good trot at the moment and saddles the Starman filly Venetian Sun with Cliff Lee in the irons and they and Composing O'Brien-Soumillon and on 6/4. Beautify has won three to date and is on 5/1 for O'Brien-McMonagle.
The Flying Five is over the five furlongs (or 1000m) and is G1 with 16 starters, led by our own Asfoora who is squeezing in another race as she did so well in the Nunthorpe and this time Dwyer is legging up McMonagle. They are on 3/1. Buccanero Fuerte is back racing as his stallion efforts were unsuccessful and is on 5/1 for Murray-Keane with stablemate Arizona Blaze on 8/1 and our equine alter ego Whistlejacket is on 9/1 for O'Brien-Soumillon.
The Vincent O'Brien National Stakes is G1 over 1400m for 2yos "no geldings". This is a very stupid restriction and as a result they have only six runners. Gstaad is on 10/11 for O'Brien (A) – Soumillon and the Godolphin runner Saba Desert is on 4/1.
The Irish St Leger is G1 and is not restricted to 3yos. Current favourite is Al Riffa on 2/1 for Joseph O'Brien and McMonagle. They won the Curragh Cup and as he is owned by Australian Bloodstock he is coming to Melbourne and is current favourite for the Melbourne Cup. Beckett's Amilac with Rossa Ryan up is unbeaten in his 5 runs to date and is on 11/4 together with Illinois for O'Brien – Soumillon.
The Blandford Stakes for f&m is G2 over 2000m and has a field of 11. Lyons-Keane combine with Red Letter, who has won her last two races, and is on 2/1. One Look is om 9/4 and Naomi Lapaglia is 10/1 for Lyons- J Ryan. She suffered from heat stroke when beaten last time and that is unlikely to occur today.
