Two G2s and two G1s on the card for this Sunday.
And catching up (we've been on the road) with yesterday's G2 the Prix Alec Head where the favourite Latakia won as a 9/10 favourite should with Soumillon on board for Graffard and wearing the Juddmonte colours. Le Combat was second at 6/1 and Bibbiena third 9/1.
The Prix Kergolay G2 is over 3000m and with 5 runners to of whom are equal favourites – Sevenna's Knight Fabre-Pouchin and Double Major Ferland-Guyon. Not much point looking further down the list as those two are stalwarts of the staying brigade.
The Prix du Calvados G2 is for 2yo fillies over 1400m with 7 runners. Fitzella has been clearing all the paths coming into this and she's on 13/8 for Palmer- O Murphy. We've put her in owing to the name reflecting on one of our previous lives and that's Ceramic on 10/1 for Head-Guyon but 2yos can be anywhere. Six of them line up here.
The Pri Morny is one of the highlights of the Deauville Festival ad it's a fascinating one for the ungelded 2yos (aren't most 2yos ungelded?). It's over 1200m and there are six starters. On paper it looks like being between Coolmore's Gstaad, a son of Star Spangled Banner, on 9/4 for O'Brien-Moore and the unbeaten Venetian Sun Burke-Lee going for win #4 on 7/4. But don't forget Wise Approach which could be an apt name for how to consider this race. He's 4/1 for Appleby-Buick.
The Pri Jean Romanet is also G1 for the f&m over 2000, with 8 going to post. Cinderella's Dream has never been worse than second and is 11/8 here. Cankoura from the late Aga Khan's stud is on 9/2 for Graffard-Barzalona and Bedtime Story 5/1 O'Brien-Moore with those two having come third and second respectively in the French Oaks.
Small fields again in the big races so where are all the horses? Are they having too much fun at the beach?
