The Sussex Stakes, a most anticipated race, brought forth a 150/1 winner!
That was when Qirat, a half-brother to Blue Stocking trained by Ralph Beckett and supposedly a pace maker for the odds-on favourite Field of Gold, not only was one of the two pacemakers in the field but under Richard Kingscote made the most of his forward position and the rest of the field was left sleeping! Rosallion made a brave effort once the penny dropped and Henry Matisse did likewise but it was all to little too late!
It was quite a day for Ralph Beckett as earlier two of his runners dead-heated for first in the Oak Tree – our roughie Saqqara Sands 16/1 and Tabiti 7/2 with favourite Bright Thunder third.
We did OK in the Molecomb with Lady Iman winning and our roughie Argentine Tango second at 12/1. Dickensian was third.
Beckett and his yard should be much happier than on Tuesday when Kinross had to be scratched at the gates.
Thursday's Group races start with the Richomnd G2 over 1200m for 2yo c&g with 9 to run. Godolphin's Maximized, a Mehmas colt, is coming along nicely and is on top on 4/1with Coolmore's Puerto Rico, a nice Wooton Bassett, on 15/2 for O'Brien-Moore and Eve Johnson-Houghton's good 2yos continue with Havana Hurricane by Havana Gold on 5/1 with Charlie Bishop riding.
The Gordon G3 for 3yos over 2000m has 7 runners headed by Merchant for Haggas-Marquand and we are going to support our old friend Wimbledon Hawkeye on 10/1 although Rahiebb on 5/1 has his supporters but there will only be 2 place payments.
