They haven’t been very racing friendly of late with storms and heat and all sorts of problems.
However they are supposed to be a bit kinder this weekend which is good as there is some potentially very nice racing.
We will start off with Monmouth which hosts the 58th Haskell Stakes over 1800m and here come Journalism – winner of the Preakness and second in the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont. He's 4/5 and by far the best horse in the field but his mother just died of colic – Mopotism – so we hope she's up there pushing him along. He's 4/5. For mutliples if you must have a bet try Gosper on 9/2 for Walsh-Saez and Goal Oriented 4/1 for Baffert-Prat.
That's followed by the United Nations G2 over 1800m on turf which has 12 runners and is quite open. Currently Redistricting tops the market on 7/2 for Brown Prat just ahead of Limited Liability 4/1 for McCaughey-Dettori and then 9/2 Rebel Red deVaux-Saez.
Del Mar is up and racing and on Saturday hosts the San Clemente over 1600m turf for 3yo fillies. Thought Process is on 8/5 – she's by Collected out of Creative Thinking so clever naming. Then we will go wider and put in Firenze Flavor 12/1 and Amorita 10/1.
Over at Saratoga the feature is the Coaching Club of America Oaks Invitational Gr2 over 1800m for 3yo fillies and a field of six. Topping the market are two fillies on 9/2 – McPeek's Take Charge Milady with Carmouche riding – she by Take Charge Indy – and Scottish Lassie by McKinzie for Abreu-Rosario,
That's followed by the Alfred G Vanderbilt Gr 2 over 1200m and Book 'em Danno on 5/2 is vying for favoritism with Millikin on 7/2. Could go either way. And for value we will add Nash on 8/1 for Cox-Rosario.
