The bucket and spade are now unpacked and unless you are riding in the Tour de France head to the beach in the morning and the racetrack in the afternoon.

If you go early enough in the morning to the beach you can see horses exercising on the sand and in the surf.

There's some top racing in the afternoon with the feature being the Prix Jean Prat for 3yos over 1400m and 10 of them will line up.  The Lion in Winter is making his reappearance but may need a race to get up to top form – he's 13/2 with Ryan Moore as usual on board.  Godolphin may be a better bet than Coolmore this time with Shadow of Light (Appleby-Buick) on 2/1.

We have a roughie here that we like – Silius on 18/1.  The Ferland stable is in great form and Guyon has been booked for the ride.

Earlier the Prix de Ris-Oranges G3 is over the straight 1200m and has 6 runners.  We will stick with the favourite the Fabre Tribalist on 2/1 with Barzalona riding and then our old fried Beauvatier on 3/1 for Barberot-Pouchin.  If you really need another try Spycatcher on 3/1 but not much value in such a small field.

Here's hoping you make your aperetif money in the big one and can return to the beach to enjoy it.
