Cheltenham's November meeting heads into its second day and there are some decent wagers to be had on what looks like another competitive card.

The horse I'm most interested in does unfortunately run in a race that I suspect is going to prove to be extremely competitive, but I cannot get away from the progressive Jurancon in the Paddy Power Intermediate Handicap Hurdle (3.30).

A three-time winner and two-time runner-up from his five starts over hurdles, it's fair to say Jurancon has barely put a foot wrong throughout his career, progressing from start to start least season and posting some smart performances in the process.

The effort that sticks out most is his commanding victory over subsequent Grade 2 scorer Tripoli Flyer at Chepstow in November. David Pipe's hurdler won twice following that but still gets the run off 10lb than the now 142-rated Tripoli Flyer and with the yard in fine form and the prospect of further improvement to come now that he steps up in trip after a wind-op, I'm happy to take the 7/2 available despite this looking like a competitive field.

Jurancon – 1pt Win

Odds – 5/2

The Skelton team have started the season with a bang and it's no surprise to see them throw a handful of darts at the feature Paddy Power Gold Cup Handicap Chase (2.20).

Conditions look set to be testing but that ought not prove a bother for the unexposed Panic Attack, who is the choice of Harry Skelton and returns to action having posted an excellent effort when scoring at Windsor last season before going down by a head over hurdles at Warwick next time out.

I suspect connections have had this race in mind for her ever since her Warwick success and although 10lb higher, she remains feasibly treated. A winner of a Listed handicap hurdle here back in 2022, Dan Skelton's mare clearly has no issues with the track, while it's likely there's plenty more to come from her over fences given this will be just her sixth start over the larger obstacles.

A neat daughter of Canford Cliffs, it was tough not to be impressed with how she jumped and travelled when scoring at Windsor last season and I'd be disappointed if she wasn't capable of putting up a big performance off this 10lb higher mark.

Panic Attack – 1pt Win

Odds – 8/1
