Pride Of Arras pleases ahead of Bahrain International Trophy

The Ralph Beckett-trained Pride Of Arras is working well ahead of Friday’s Group 2 Bahrain International Trophy and could continue with a further international campaign.

The son of New Bay was a wide-margin winner of his sole juvenile start and impressed on seasonal return with victory in the Group 2 Dante Stakes at York, a win which propelled him near the head of the Epsom Derby betting.

He disappointed at Epsom, finishing fifty lengths adrift of winner Lambourn, and failed to make any impression in the Irish Derby three weeks later.

Gelded in July, the three-year-old made an emphatic return to the track with a surprise success in the 1m4f Group 2 Great Voltigeur Stakes at York.

The Bahrain International Trophy was identified as a possible target and the gelding was supplemented for the contest.

"We're happy with how he's travelled, he left last Wednesday and he's settled in well," Beckett said.

"It's a long straight and that should suit Pride Of Arras well.

"He's malleable in terms of tactics, so a plan should be fairly straightforward.

"I don't think distance is an issue, he is suited by ten or twelve furlongs."

Future plans will depend on Pride Of Arras' performance in the Bahrain International Trophy, but further Middle Eastern targets could be possible.

"He could go to Dubai, depending on what happens in Bahrain, and we will work out a plan for next summer."
