Ralph Beckett has little concerns about the ability of Amiloc to jump sharply from the gates ahead of his crack at the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Del Mar on Saturday.
The classy three-year-old was somewhat sluggish out of the gates when winning back-to-back contests at Goodwood earlier in the season but he jumped alertly when always prominent throughout his victory in the King Edward Stakes VII Stakes at Royal Ascot before again showing no signs of issues when runner-up to Al Riffa Irish St Leger.
Beckett said: "He was very quick out the gates at Ascot, so I think we're over that problem, but he will have a stalls session here tomorrow. We'll have the handler in there tomorrow, as will Qirat.
"I think familiarity puts it all together, they're different types of stalls here, they put you in with a different lead, there's more room inside them, they'll put a handler in with the horse, so I think the familiarity with it helps."
The son of Postponed, who has been handed a kind draw in stall three, is a general 16/1 chance under Rossa Ryan, while stablemate Qirat will have to overcome gate thirteen if he is to bounce back to winning ways in the Breeders' Cup Mile.
A shock 150/1 winner of the Sussex Stakes earlier in the year, Ralph Beckett's charge has since finished a creditable fifth when dropped back to seven furlongs in the City Of York Stakes before struggling in the Qatar Prix Daniel Wildenstein at Longchamp on Arc weekend.
"I think he'll have to break well, and we'll have to go forward," said Beckett. "I think the set up is perfect, the draw isn't, but the turning nature of the track will suit him."
