The John and Thady Gosden-trained three-year-old has been one of the stories of the season for owners Juddmonte, winning the Craven Stakes at Newmarket before suffering an unlucky defeat back on the Rowley Mile in the 2000 Guineas in May.

A striking son of Kingman, he readily set the record straight under Colin Keane in the Irish equivalent before going on to emulate his father with a facile success in the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.

He was found to be lame following his subsequent defeat when odds-on in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood and connections felt that a lack of a recent run was the key factor to him being beaten in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on British Champions Day on his reappearance last weekend.

A press release from Juddmonte said: "The owners of Juddmonte have decided that Field Of Gold will remain in training as a four-year-old.

"This imposing son of Kingman began his three-year-old season with a highly impressive performance in the Craven Stakes at Newmarket and then dominated to win the Group One Irish 2,000 Guineas at the Curragh and the Group One St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.

"He will not run again this season and will now have a well-earned break before he begins his four-year-old campaign."
