“It’s a huge ask for her but I think the filly will improve going up in trip”
Kevin Philippart De Foy is hopeful that the step up in trip and quick conditions can see Cathedral in a better light when she heads stateside for the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mares at Del Mar next weekend.
Owned by Amo Racing, Cathedral, who was formerly trained by Ralph Beckett, shaped with plenty of promise on her stable debut for Kevin Philippart de Foy when fourth behind Fallen Angel in the Matron Stakes before a lesser effort behind the same rival in the Sun Chariot Stakes.
"The plan is to go for the Filly and Mares at the Breeders' Cup," said Kevin Philippart de Foy.
"She's going to gallop on Friday morning and fly on Saturday."
Last year's Coronation Stakes fourth will be stepping beyond nine furlongs when she heads to Del Mar next weekend, with De Foy confident his contender will relish the move up in trip.
He added: "It's a huge ask for her but I think the filly will improve going up in trip. She really likes fast ground, and I think eleven furlongs will be suit her well with a strong pace.
"She will need a career best to be competitive there but at least she will have her conditions. I don't think going round the bend will be a problem as she won first time out at Lingfield over seven furlongs."
