Precise leapt to the top of the 1000 Guineas market with a taking success in the Group 1 success in the bet365 Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket on Friday.
Fresh off the back of securing top-level honours on Diamond Necklace in the Qatar Marcel Bousaac at Longchamp last weekend, Soumillon was back in action on an Aidan O'Brien-trained juvenile filly as Precise looked to extend her winning streak to four following victories in both the Prestige Stakes at Goodwood and Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh.
Stepping up to a mile for the first time, Soumillon positioned the daughter of Starspangledbanner well off the pace, with Venetian Lace at the head of affairs cutting out the early gallop.
Just as she did on the July Course, Venetian Lace jinked left-handed under pressure and although she continued to battle on well up the hill, the eye was always drawn to Precise and Soumillon, who had yet moved a muscle on his mount as they cruised upsides towards the rear side rail.
With the minimum of fuss, Precise eased into a clear advantage and Soumillon only had to push his filly out with hands and heels to see her draw away for a very taking three and a quarter length win from Charlie Johnston's 40/1 shot Venetian Lace.
Aidan O'Brien said: "She looks very special and everything she has done from day one has been so easy, so we were never sure how good she was.
"She looks serious, and it reminded me of Minding, she was impressive, incredible really. She was cantering going to post and that is unusual.
"She's doing everything so easy. Christophe said he was left in front a lot longer than he would have liked but he was brilliant on her, super confident and very smooth on her, so she's very exciting.
"She's a total natural athlete so you never do too much at home with her but these races like this and the Boussac, you like to see them in these, so you know what you have for next year and you're not kidding yourself going into next year."
Precise was slashed to 7/2 favourite for next season's 1000 Guineas, with O'Brien indicating that she would indeed be at the forefront of the fillies' Classic team.
He added: "We always hoped she would be a Classic filly but up here in Newmarket there is nowhere to hide, she was out very quick and what you love about her is she sailed down to the two-furlong pole and at that point you thought she was going to win – by the time she got to the seven it was over.
"I'd say we will put her away; she looks like she could be anything, and we'll train her for the Classics. The sky is the limit for her."
With Ryan Moore currently on the sidelines with a fractured leg, Christophe Soumillon continues to enjoy an excellent time of things of late in the Coolmore silks and the Belgian-born rider was full of praise for O'Brien's latest star.
"The pace was quite good from the beginning, and my filly was very relaxed. There was a point when I looked around and I was a bit far clear but when I asked her to quicken, her response was straight away.
"I probably think I got there a furlong to soon, but I loved the way she quickened last time at the Curragh. But today, she was far more impressive."
On how she compared with riding Diamond Neckless last weekend, Soumillon added: "I think they are two different fillies. Precise is more mature and has run more but Diamond Necklace for me is very special."
