The team are back to go through the action on ITV Racing this Saturday.
1.15 – Ascot - BetMGM British EBF October Stakes
William Haggas has won three of the last eight renewals of this Listed prize and could do so once more with Nardra, who created a very nice impression when making a facile winning debut last season. She was disappointing when well-beaten on quick ground over six furlongs last time but should do much better now back over seven with cut underfoot.
1.30 – Newmarket - British EBF Premier Fillies' Handicap
The unexposed and progressive Morrophore can defy topweight. John and Thady Gosden's son of Kingman continues to progress with racing, while the form of her ten-furlong success at Ascot at May has worked out nicely with three subsequent winners emerging from the contest. There should be more to come, and she can make a winning return.
1.50 - Ascot - BetMGM Rous Stakes
An opening sprint where it could pay to take a chance on Candy, who might have more to offer over five furlongs with give underfoot. He battled on well after showing bundles of early speed to land a competitive Ayr Silver Cup last time out and jockey George Wood clearly gets on well with him. He will need more to take the step back up to Listed level but did score in this company as a juvenile and promised to rate higher earlier in his career.
2.05 – Newmarket - £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes
Half Sovereign continues to progress and might prove capable of taking another step forward. Karl Burke's filly took her record to four from five with a comfortable all-the-way success in a Doncaster nursery last time, where she seemed to idol slightly out in front before pulling out more in the final furlong. She looks versatile on both track and ground and can continue the winning thread.
2.25 – Ascot - BetMGM Cumberland Lodge Stakes
Al Qareem has won this contest the last two seasons, but he might struggle to give 3lb to the evergreen Hamish, who claimed the prize back in 2022. William Haggas' likeable performer looks to have everything going his way and he can complete the hat-trick for 2025 following his success in the Listed Stand Cup at Chester, where he did well to pick up off a steady gallop.
2.40 – Newmarket - BetMGM Sun Chariot Stakes
Fallen Angel and Cinderella's Dream are proven at Group 1 level, but neither are unbeatable. The one to take a chance on must be the progressive filly Lady Of Spain, who made it five from five with a commanding victory from off the pace in the Group 3 Atalanta Stakes at Sandown on her reappearance and turf debut. Roger Varian's filly will need to take another step forward, but she could be equal to the task.
3.00 – Ascot - John Guest Racing Bengough Stakes
This should be run at a good gallop, which might enable Apollo One to slot into a nice position. He bounced right back to his best when a narrow second in a competitive Portland at Doncaster and has plenty going for him here. He's a previous course and distance winner, will not mind ease in the ground and is right in the mix on ratings.
3.20 – Redcar - William Hill Two Year Old Trophy
This looks to be all about Song of The Clyde. Clive Cox's juvenile took a big step forward to land the valuable sales event at York's Ebor meeting before bumping into a nice filly in a similar race at Doncaster last time out. A colt by Sergei Prokofiev, he looks versatile regarding both trip and ground, and he could take plenty of beating here.
3.35 – Ascot - BetMGM Challenge Cup
Purosangue's losing run continues but he was well-backed up at Ayr last time out and ran promisingly in first-time cheekpieces, keeping on well down the slightly unfavoured part of the track to finish a close-up fourth. The Andrew Balding team are in top form and this four-year-old might be able to snap the losing run before his 2lb higher mark kicks in.
4.10 - Ascot Racecourse Supports Berks County FC Handicap
Rosario has been unlucky this season not to get his head in front. He was an excellent fifth having fluffed the start over course and distance in August before finishing third at Goodwood and Doncaster last time out. A further 2lb rise in the weights shouldn't pose any issues nor should this ease in the ground. He deserves to get back to winning ways and can do so here as long as he gets away on terms.
