It's been a tough couple of opening days at Newmarket's Cambridgeshire meeting, so hopefully things will turn heading into the final day.

The Group 1 Cheveley Park and Middle Park Stakes take centre stage, while the Cambridgeshire looks a competitive betting heat as so often is the case.

The best bet on the card comes in the finale, where Indian Springs will be looking to continue his upward trajectory for the formidable Charlie Appleby and Buick combination.

An impressive winner of a Newmarket maiden back in April, he returned from a break following a gelding operation to run out a facile winner over the same furlong trip under a penalty at Haydock in July.

Withdrawn on ground described as good to soft at Doncaster recently, Charlie Appleby clearly feels this progressive three-year-old wants top of the ground, which he'll get this afternoon, while an opening mark of 96 may well underestimate his ability now that he steps into handicap company.

2pt Win – Indian Springs

Odds – 2/1

Our second wager comes in the Cheveley Park Stakes. Royal Fixation understandable requires plenty of respect following her Lowther Stakes success, but Aidan O'Brien won this twelve months ago with Lake Victoria and could do so once more with True Love, who was reportedly slightly lame when beaten at odds of 1/4 in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes this season.

This daughter of No Nay Never looked oh so impressive in both the Group 2 Queen Mary and Railway Stakes on her prior two outings and I'm more than happy to put a line through her latest effort.

The near side rail proved the place to be yesterday, and Wayne Lordan might look to exploit that from gate eight here.

1pt Win – True Love

Odds – 5/2

With just 23 runners going to post, it's possible this seasons Cambridgeshire is a touch less competitive than it often can be.

The booking of Oisin Murphy on Fort George catches the eye. The champion jockey would have had plenty of options in this, having rode Treble Tee to victory last time out,

but he sticks with the horse he guided to an all-the-way success in a competitive Newbury handicap last time.

He looks well drawn in stall ten and this improving three-year-old, who has been progressing with every outing to date this season, can defy a 9lb hike in the weights to land this valuable pot for the Andrew Balding team.

1pt Win – Fort George

Odds – 13/2
