Having finished a fairly promising fifth of her seven on her debut at Longchamp back in May, La Baneza shaped much better than her finishing position suggested next time out.

Despite only finishing eighth at Cholet on her second start, she kept on well enough once passed in the straight, shaping as though softer conditions would suit as she struggled to let herself down on the ground.

With her sights lowered and softer ground underfoot, Andre Fabre's nicely-bred three-year-old readily got off the mark after 53 days off with a commanding one-length success in maiden company.

Having travelled strongly round the final bend, she found plenty in the closing stages to see off the challenges, leaving the impression that there could be lots more to come following that confidence-boosting first victory.

Trained by master handler, it wouldn't be at all surprising if this daughter of Lope De Vega – who is a full-sister to David Menuisier's promising maiden winner Lopeo – took another step forward this afternoon with conditions to suit once more.
