Karl Burke looks to have another classy juvenile on his hands after Aylin got back to winning ways in the Group 2 Betfred May Hill Stakes at Doncaster.
Carrying the colours of Al Shaqab Racing, Aylin was sent off a well-backed 5/1 chance to reverse the form with Moon Target from their meeting in the Prestige Fillies' Stakes at Goodwood last month.
As the Sir Mark Prescott-trained 11/10 market leader faded tamely passing the furlong marker, Karl Burke's filly set off in hot pursuit of both Pacific Mission and Sugar Island.
Having seen off the challenge of Sugar Island, Pacific Mission did her best to keep Aylin at bay in the closing stages but the Karl Burke-trained daughter of St Mark's Basilica always looked to be coming home that touch stronger under David Egan and the pair ultimately prevailed by three parts of a length.
Speaking on Sky Sports Racing, Burke, who landed the prize with Laurens in 2017 and Darnation in 2023, said: "David (Egan) gave her a nice ride. It's always hard to make ground on a slow surface here but we were keen to get some cover and ride her to finish.
"I thought she was going to struggle three out but when she switched the last furlong, I thought she would get there.
"The extra furlong has suited her as well. It's a question now if she takes another run to step up into either the Marcel Boussac or the Fillies' Mile. We'll get her home and enjoy this win first."
Santorini stars in Park Hill Stakes
Santorini Star took the step up to Group 2 company in her stride when running out a determined winner of the Betfred Park Hill Stakes on Thursday.
Representing in-form handler William Haggas, Santorini Star arrived on the Town Moor following a comfortable success in a competitive handicap over further at York's Ebor meeting.
Dropped back to one-mile six for her first outing at Group 2 level, she was always towards the fore under Tom Marquand, who set about making his intentions clear from some way out as he began to wind up the tempo on the front end.
Sir Mark Prescott's Content loomed up to have a crack and might well have stuck her white blaze in front, but neither Marquand nor Santorini Star were in the mood to be denied, and they battled back gamely to claim the honours by a neck.
Crepe Suzette fared best of the John and Thady Gosden-trained trio in third.
"I didn't give her a smack until quite late, and she did the same at York, she comes off the bridle early, but you never really feel in trouble," explained Marquand on Sky Sports Racing.
"I gave the first flick, then thought, the Prescott filly (Consent) will have to be good to beat her.
"She stays really well, is tough in the finish and enjoys that ground. It was a big step up from a handicap win at York but she's really kind of finding her mojo and her legs now.
"There are plenty of doors open for her now over one-mile six on those stiff tracks or two miles, or probably even further if you wanted to. She's an exciting filly and is very versatile."
Calendar Girl grabs Weatherbys Scientific 300,000 2-Y-O Stakes prize
Owen Burrows recent excellent run of form continued when Calendar Girl struck in the valuable Weatherbys Scientific 300,000 2-Y-O Stakes at Doncaster on Thursday.
A winner on her debut at Newbury, Calendar Girl suffered of a shock defeat when turned over under a penalty at Epsom in August. However, back on a more conventional track, Owen Burrows' 7/2 chance powered home from off the pace under Saffie Osborne to deny the front-running Song Of The Clyde by half a length.
George Scott's Poatan finished back in third for Amo Racing, while Aidan O'Brien's market leader Brussels was one spot behind in fourth.
Speaking of the winner, who carried the silks of Kennet Valley Syndicates, Owen Burrows told ITV Racing: "She's won this which is great as the prize money is wonderful.
"This has always been the plan as such, but I think she's pretty smart, so we won't just be trying to nail all these sales races.
"She's a big girl and is only going to improve next year. She looked flat out from the word go but we'll see. I'm thinking more next year but I think she'll be a miler next year. I would like to think we can get back black-type with her."
