Last year's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winning rider Rossa Ryan enjoyed his 1000th career winner when guiding Lopeo to victory at Goodwood.

Riding the David Menusier-trained Lopeo, Ryan tracked both I Can Dance and Last Verse  throughout the mile maiden before pouncing late to score by two and a quarter lengths.

Rossa Ryan's biggest success to date when partnering the Ralph Beckett-trained filly Bluestocking to victory in last year's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

Speaking to Racing TV, Ryan said: "I wasn't aware of 1,000 career winners but I was aware I was approaching 1,000 in Britain as I've a friend who is always on about it, so I've a few more to go for that. It's great to get it,"

"I've had a lot of good support from good people and I've a fantastic agent (Steve Croft) behind me, I think I've ridden 850 winners under him, so I owe it all to him.

"I had an unbelievable grounding with Richard Hannon which helped me get the Amo job and that evolved on to Ralph (Beckett), it's been a good journey. So far, so good.

"I have a lot of support, most of the time I can leave the races at the races. This year has been great, it hasn't been as good as last year, but I think I took last year for granted given what Bluestocking did.

"It's something I have to learn to adapt to, but I think I'm coping all right with it."

14-trained British and Irish horses feature in Melbourne Cup nominations

14 horses trained in Britain and Ireland featured among the 120 Melbourne Cup nominations that were revealed on Tuesday.

Aidan O'Brien hasn't saddled a runner in the 'race that stops a nation' for five years but did enter a trio of horses, with leading St Leger Stakes hope Scandinavia featuring on the list alongside Mount Kilimanjaro and Aftermath.

Aidan's son and two-time Melbourne Cup winner Joseph looks to hold leading claims as his highly-talented Al Riffa, who has recently been sold to owners Australian Bloodstock, remains on course, while Willie Mullins' search for a first Cup could continue with Absurde and Hipop De Loire.

Leading British-trained contenders include Tom Clover's Tabletalk, Andrew Balding's St Leger hopeful Furthur, David O'Meara's Epic Poet and the Simon and Ed Crisford-trained Meydaan.

Lifeplan team looking towards Middle Park

Declan Carroll will target his exciting juvenile Lifeplan at the Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket later in the month.

An impressive winner on debut at Thirsk, the son of Kodi Bear readily took the step up in class in his stride when running on strongly to claim the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes at York last month.

Almeraq target remains in the balance

Connections of the promising Almeraq remain undecided as to what his next outing may be, with Haydock's Group 1 Betfair Sprint Cup still a possible option alongside both the Ayr Gold and Listed Garrowby Stakes at York on Sunday.

The Shadwell-owned colt absolutely bolted up on his handicap debut at Ayr in July and has since been handed an official rating of 105 by the assessors.

William Haggas' son of Dark Angel, who is a general 6/1 favourite for the Ayr Gold Cup and a 12/1 chance for Saturday's Group 1 Betfair Sprint Cup, also holds an entry in the British Champions Sprint Stakes at Ascot in October.

Alexis Pouchin ruled out from Arc Trials day

Leading rider Alexis Pouchin has been ruled out of Arc Trials day this weekend due to a foot injury. The news was broken this afternoon by Equidia, who contacted the rider's agent Alexis Doussot to confirm his absence. Pouchin hopes to be back in action next week.
