King’s best bets - 26th August 2025

Sam King is back with his best bets on Tuesday.

Our first wager of the day comes from Musselburgh. George Scott has just one runner on Tuesday and it's interesting that he's happy to send the gelded juvenile Midnight Rodeo all the way up to Scotland to make his nursery debut at 2.50.

The Hamilton Road-based handler has sent just five horses to the Scottish venue in the last five years and although only one has managed to find the winners' circle, none of them finished outside the first four.

Step forward his latest contender, Midnight Rodeo, who has looked tapped for toe in his three qualifying runs to date over six and seven furlongs.

Despite finishing last of seven, he didn't run badly on his debut over seven furlongs at Haydock before two similar efforts when dropped back to six.

It's interesting that the first-time hood connections deployed last time at Pontefract has been despatched with now that he steps up to a mile in lesser company, while the booking of Paul Mulrennan, who is yet to ride for Scott this year but has a healthy 18% strike rate at the course over the last five seasons.

An opening mark of 62 is hardly daunting and should he take a step forward for this stiffer stamina test, the George Scott's juvenile can be expected to put up a bold show.

1pt Win – Midnight Rodeo

Odds – 3/1

Over at Lingfield, Bretton Wood remains firmly of interest in the mile Class 6 handicap at Lingfield this evening (6.40).

A well-bred son of Frankel out of a talented mare, Bretton Wood had largely been campaigned over sprint trips by previous handlers James Owen and Robert Cowell.

Stepping up to a mile on his first outing for Jack Channon, he fairly caught the eye with a decent performance at Ffos Las, making steady headway from off the pace before rallying well in the final furlong to finish fourth.

A further 2lb drop in the weights sees him drop into Class 6 company for the first time in his career and it's interesting that connections opt to stick to the mile route on his return to an all-weather surface. He's well-drawn in gate four to be ridden more prominently this time around and that could make the difference here against lesser opposition.

1pt Win – Bretton Wood

Odds – 9/4
