Owen Burrows wins Group 3 Rose Of Lancaster Stakes with Royal Dubai…
- Third win in four years for trainer Owen Burrows in Rose Of Lancaster
Trainer Owen Burrows continued his domination of the Group 3 Rose Of Lancaster Stakes with a third win in the contest from the last four years.
This year, it was the role of new recruit Royal Dubai to fly the flag for the yard, having taken the contest with Anmaat in 2022 and 2024. Previously trained by Marco Botti, Royal Dubai had made a winning start for new connections in the Listed Steventon Stakes at Newbury.
Ridden again by Callum Rodriguez, the five-year-old started joint favourite for the Group 3 contest and was always keen in the rear. With little racing room available in the final three furlongs, the pair were forced to wait for a space before making headway with a furlong to run. Battling hard with Military Order, Royal Dubai showed his progression to score by a neck with Haunted Dream back in third.
It was another important success for local jockey Callum Rodriguez, who secured his landmark 500th victory at the same track on Friday evening.
Rodriguez said: "That was a good performance. We were obviously drawn on the inside. He is a horse that enjoys a bit of cover and passing horses, so we were never going to be in a rush.
"I was a little bit worried up the straight that we were not going to get the splits, but he was all there for me when I needed him and he has picked up good to the line.
"Owen and I have teamed up quite well and thankfully most of the horses I've ridden for him seem to have won. It's a good partnership and enjoyable.
"It was nice to get the 500 up here last night. This place has been good to me (the jockey enjoyed his biggest career win at Haydock Park in the 2023 Group One Betfair Sprint Cup on Regional). It was my local track growing up and it all means a lot.
"Here's to the next 500!"
