The John and Thady Gosden team have revealed on Thursday morning that stable star Field Of Gold was lame this morning following his defeat in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood yesterday.
A facile winner of the Irish 2000 Guineas and St James's Palace Stakes, Field Of Gold was sent off a 1/3 chance to complete a memorable Group 1 hat-trick in yesterday's Sussex Stakes.
However, unlike his great father Kingman, the Juddmonte-owned Classic winner failed to land a blow as his pacesetter Qirat, who was a staggering 150/1 shot, clung on gamely in the closing stages to stun viewers on the Sussex downs.
The striking grey son of Kingman now looks set to under routine tests after John Gosden revealed to leading presenter Nick Luck that he was lame this morning.
Speaking on X, Nick Luck said: "John told me that Field Of Gold is lame on his near hind leg, his left hind leg. He said it's fairly obvious he's lame and that a vet is going to come in and perform all the requisite tests to try and ascertain the nature of the injury."
Following his defeat in the Sussex Stakes, Field Of Gold was pushed out to 5/1 (from 5/4) by Paddy Power for the Juddmonte International at York next month.
