‘She has developed into a lover of the Curragh’ - Sam King’s daily wagers

Redcar stages an apprentice only card this afternoon, with some talented young riders on display.

Jockey Neil Callan certainly has bragging rights in the Callan household at the moment following his Group 1 July Cup success on No Half Measures, but son Jack continues to advocate his talents and is well worth his 5lb claim.

He heads to Redcar to team up with rookie trainer Jack Morland and they look to have an interesting contender in the shape of Orchestral Wave, who could have more to offer in the penultimate contest on the card (5.10).

Having only beaten one rivals in four handicap starts for Iain Jardine, Orchestral Wave showed much more on his stable debut when finishing third over a mile and a half at Wolverhampton.

After travelling nicely on the pace for much of the twelve-furlong handicap, Jack Morland's unexposed three-year-old faded late on, shaping as though the drop back to an extended mile this afternoon would suit.

A 1lb drop in the weights combined with Jack Callan taking off a further 5lb puts him on a workable mark, especially when considering the initial promise that the son of Kameko showed as a two-year-old for Charlie Fellowes.

The application of first-time cheekpieces also catches the eye and in a race that might not take much winning, he gets the nod to come out on top.

1pt Win – Orchestral Wave

Odds – 7/2

One Look looks like the best bet on a decent card at the Curragh, with the general 3/1 on offer in the Group 3 Al Shira'aa Racing Meadow Court Stakes (2.30) more than fair.

A facile six-length winner of the valuable Goffs Million on debut in September 2023, One Look has developed into something of a lover of the Curragh, with two victories and one placing from her three outings at the venue.

She returned to form with a smooth victory in the Listed Irish European Breeders Fund Park Express Stakes over a mile at the Curragh before showing even stronger form when beaten only half a length by multiple Group 1 winner Porta Fortuna in the Group 2 Lanwades Stud Stakes next time out.

Paddy Twomey's filly needs to bounce back from a lesser effort in the Group 2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot, but she had excuses that day and there's no doubt

she will find this easier. The first two home have also since finished first and third in the Group 1 Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes to give the form some substance.

This daughter of Gleneagles appears to save her best for the Curragh, while it's possible there could be further progress on the cards now that she steps up to a mile and a quarter for the first time.

The return to this venue, combined with the new trip and drop in grade, can be enough to see her get back to winning ways.

1pt Win – One Look

Odds – 3/1
