Notable Speech supplemented for July Cup

Sixteen have been confirmed for Saturday’s Group 1 July Cup, including surprise supplementary entry Notable Speech.

There were two supplementary entries at the five-day stage: Charlie Appleby's 2024 2000 Guineas hero Notable Speech and fellow Godolphin-owned Spy Chief, trained by John and Thady Gosden. It will be the first time Notable Speech, who has finished fourth on his two outings in Group 1 company over a mile this season, will drop back to a shorter distance. The colt has always been campaigned over a mile, taking the 2000 Guineas and Group 1 Sussex Stakes during a glorious three-year-old season in 2024.

Flora Of Bermuda, recently purchased by Wathnan Racing, holds favouritism for trainer Andrew Balding after producing a useful second behind the re-opposing Inisherin in the Group 2 Clipper Stakes at York and a third in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The Charlie Appleby-trained Symbol Of Honour missed an intended target at Royal Ascot and goes into the July Cup with the benefit of a small break. The three-year-old gelding has improved considerably as a three-year-old, recording back to back victories in the Listed Carnavon Stakes and the Group 2 Sandy Lane Stakes, both over six furlongs.

George Boughey's Believing broke through for a landmark Group 1 victory at Meydan earlier in the season but was disappointing at Royal Ascot, finishing midfield in the Group 1 King Charles Stakes. In foal to Frankel, the five-year-old was purchased by Coolmore in December and connections will be hoping for a strong end to a very successful career.

The Aidan O'Brien-trained Whistlejacket was subject to notable market support in the past few days, having been successful as a juvenile over the same course and distance in the Group 2 July Stakes. Whilst his form has not been on the same level as a three-year-old, the colt has still produced some strong efforts including a sixth in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup.
