Colin Keane has said that he has nobody else to blame but himself as he looks set to receive a whip ban for breaking the rules at Sandown on Friday.
Riding in his retained colours for Juddmonte, the multiple Irish champion jockey looked to strike Windlord eight times when scoring in the Listed Gala Stakes at Sandown.
While the figure of eight would have been permitted in Ireland, six strikes in the limit in British Flat racing, so his case will head to the British Horseracing Authority's whip review committee next week.
Keane, who looks likely to pick up a 14-day ban and therefore miss the key ride on St James's Palace Stakes hero Field Of Gold in the Sussex Stakes, said: "I'd imagine (I will be suspended) but it's my own fault,"
"I'm so used to eight as it is at home, I just have to abide by the rules here.
"That's the only way I can put it, I know six is the amount over here but when I was in a ding-dong battle, I suppose it just went out of my head unfortunately.
"It's unfortunate but it's my own fault. I can't blame anyone bar myself. It's a learning curve, I'm used to eight at home, but it would be very rare that I ever hit one eight. I can't tell you when the last time I struck one eight was. It was my mistake."
On the potential of raising an appeal, Keane added: "Tony Hind is my agent. He's looking into it with all the right people."
Speaking following his victory on board Blue Bolt in the Listed Coral Distaff, Colin Keane also revealed it has taken some time for him to come to terms with riding at the Sandown venue.
The jockey came under some criticism for his ride on Publish in a maiden at the track on Friday afternoon.
He said: "I'm still getting the hang of the place. It's such a stiff track but they don't seem to come back too much on it. When you turn in from the bottom of the straight, you're climbing the whole way."
