Sam King is back with two selections on Tuesday.
Royal Ascot may have been and gone, but that's the thing about the flat season, there's still so much more high-class action to come, with the July Cup and Glorious Goodwood just around the corner.
It's unlikely that many of the horses running today will turn up at that meeting, although there are some nice juvenile types on display at Newbury this evening.
The best bet on the card looks to come in the stayer's race at 7.15, with Almuhit now a confident selection after the withdrawal of early market leader Anzac Day.
He posted three good efforts over hurdles since undergoing a wind-operation, winning twice for trainer Gary Brown before finishing runner-up on his stable debut in a competitive handicap hurdle at Punchestown.
Now trained by Faye Bramley, Almuhit returned to the flat at Goodwood in May and was sent off just a 15/2 chance in a tougher handicap. He was subsequently pulled up by jockey Eddy Greatrex, who reported something felt amiss with the six-year-old.
However, back over the same course and distance a month later, he quickly proved that he was still capable of performing on the flat by finishing a creditable fourth behind the Gary and Josh Moore-trained Aggagio in Class 3 company.
Dropped back to Class 4 level this afternoon off a 2lb lower mark, he looks like a much more solid wager than current market leader Hydroplane, who needs to avoid the bounce factor having returned from a two-year absence with a promising run at Chester last time.
1pt Win – Almuhit
Odds – 5/2
A chance is taken on Moby Quick in the closing six-furlong handicap (8.50), with Callum Shepherd back onboard following his Czech Derby heroics on Sunday.
A good second over this trip in first-time cheekpieces at Doncaster in May, he subsequently failed to back that up racing off the same mark when upped to seven furlongs at Salisbury three weeks later.
He was slowly away and didn't always look at home on the track last time out, so it's no shock to see connections return to a more conventional straight course now back over six furlongs.
It's also interesting that first-time blinkers replace the cheekpieces worn on his last two occasions and should they have the desired effect of waking up this tricky-looking
customer, he could go well off a 1lb lower mark from a potentially useful draw in stall eleven.
1pt Win – Moby Quick
Odds – 12/1
