Scottsville Picks - Sunday, 21 September

Racecourse : Scottsville
Racecourse : Scottsville Picture: goldcircle.co.za

Race 1
Race Summary:
Plenty first-timers, including progeny of Rafeef, Hawwaam, Vercingetorix and Erik The Red, and with some having drawn well towards the inside and it should pay to follow the betting market closely. WHAT A PASSION has met some decent individuals and has not done badly. Her experience could see her notch up a maiden win. WINTER BLESSING has shown good pace and needs to find a little more to win. She should be in the money. AURELIAN could show more after a two-month break during which she would have strengthened up.

Selections:

#10 What A Passion, #8 Winter Blessing, #16 Aurelian, #4 Typical Woman

Race 2
Race Summary:
There was little to choose between JOHNNY BOY and DRIELANDENPUNT when both made promising debuts at Hollywoodbets Greyville. And the pair could fight it out for the win this time as both have room for good improvement. SPAARNE RIVIER is a R750,000 Hawwaam colt out of a Var mare. He has drawn ideally in gate No 1 and could be the first-timer to watch. THE MARQUEE is by William Longsword from a speedy female line and should be up there too.

Selections:

#11 Johnny Boy, #10 Drielandenpunt, #1 Spaarne Rivier, #6 The Marquee

Race 3
Race Summary:
SON OF RAFEEF caught the eye on his debut outing. He is set to make further progress but there are newcomers in the hunt so the betting market needs to be closely followed. PLAY WORLD is a well-bred first-timer by One World and races for a stable in good form. HERE COMES JOHNNY is by What A Winter out of an Australian mare and having drawn well could attract support too. BOURNE SUPREMACY is better than he showed second time out and along with WINTER IN LONDON, who was not disgraced on debut, could finish in the money.

Selections:

#5 Son Of Rafeef, #9 Play World, #2 Here Comes Johnny, #3 Cleartherunway

Race 4
Race Summary:
Competitive start to the first leg of the Pick 6 which has rightly been gaining in popularity again. JET BLACKFIRE found only one better when tried over the course and distance last time. He should strip fitter in his second run after a rest and can hold off the challenges. MASTER SILVANO stayed on well on his return to Hollywoodbets Scottsville and could relish the extra. He has drawn well too. PIED PIPER is getting there and gives the impression he could prefer 1400m over 1600m for now. A set of cheekpieces could also benefit his chances. More can improve.

Selections:

#5 Jet Blackfire, #3 Master Silvano, #4 Pied Piper, #9 Winding Power

Race 5
Race Summary:
Three-year-old males TOWN CRIER and GORGEOUS CAPE take on elders at handicap terms and it should be an interesting contest. The former settled nicely and won well enough to suggest he could go the distance. GORGEOUS CAPE is bred for, and should appreciate, the distance, but he will need things to go right as he jumps from a wide gate. ULTRA QUICK impressed when going start to finish over the course and distance in his penultimate start. His last run over 1600m is best ignored. BEACH PALACE and INDECENT PROPOSAL rate dark horses at a venue where both runners have run well.

Selections:

#3 Town Crier, #7 Ultra Quick, #10 Gorgeous Cape, #8 Beach Palace

Race 6
Race Summary:
CAPPELLINO is in good form. He won his penultimate start easily and improved vastly on his previous form at this venue last time. Richard Fourie got to know him and from gate No 1 he could be hard to catch. TEEREX is knocking at the door again. He too could suddenly prove dangerous at this track although a wide draw is a slight concern. WHEREVERILAYMYHAT was slightly disappointing last time and has had his chances. A 4kg apprentice claim may be just what the doctor ordered to give him his best chance at the win. FASCINATION has run in competitive races and could be up to the task.

Selections:

#1 Cappellino, #8 Teerex, #5 Whereverilaymyhat, #7 Fascination

Race 7
Race Summary:
Specialist LUHAMBA PHAMBILI is well in at the weights and the proven sprinter could make a winning return after a three-month rest. He is one from one racing fresh. But the newly turned three-year-olds HIERARCHY and DARK MATTER should make things difficult carrying light weights. The former has shown class and is best weighted but is dropping in distance after her break. DARK MATTER impressed when she tried the minimum trip last time and must be taken seriously along with MAJOR TOMMIE who appeared a bit unlucky not catch the frontrunner last time.

Selections:

#6 Hierarchy, #8 Luhamba Phambili, #5 Dark Matter, #2 Major Tommie

Race 8
Race Summary:
GOLDEN RULE suddenly came back to best form when well supported at Hollywoodbets Greyville. He has shown talent and could make further progress as on pedigree, the distance should suit. DOWN BY THE RIVER wasn't a threat at the finish in his last start but is holding form and is now back over his best distance. He could get closer. Watch out for youngster CLINTOSTAR who may have won in a close finish but has room for good improvement. MASTER BOMBER and TERMINATOR are capable of decent performances over the course and distance, so watch out.

Selections:

#7 Golden Rule, #8 Down By The River, #6 Clintostar, #3 Master Bomber

Race 9
Race Summary:
CIRCUMBENDIBUS won his local debut in good style and could be worth following again. He has drawn down the extreme outside of the track. WILD JUSTICE could be a horse to follow. He may be bred for further but he did what was required to win and must be respected. REAL WAR turned in a useful performance behind CIRCUMBENDIBUS last time and is weighted to give the latter a hard time. CHOCOLATE BOMB seems capable of better. He may prefer the distance and has a plum stall. Specialist ALL THE TIME has also drawn well and could suddenly give of his best.

Selections:

#8 Wild Justice, #11 Circumbendibus, #6 Real War, #1 Chocolate Bomb
