Our Jet enjoyed a superb takeoff in Malaysia when he cruised to victory in the Open Novice event over 1150m on the No. 2 track at Sungai Besi today.
Kim Bella and Spice Babe were the early leaders in the set-weight event but Our Jet , who started from the widest barrier (10), soon overtook them and streaked to a clear lead. And the race was as good as over.
Backed down to odds-on, the Bradbury's Luck galloper kept up a bright gallop the rest of the way and won by 2-1/2 lengths. Second was Pacific Hunter and third Lucky Warrior.
Trainer Winson Cheng Han Yang, who saddled Lucky Magic to victory in the RM1mil Selangor Mile last month, appears to have another smart galloper in his yards.
Our Jet had a win and three second-place finishes in seven runs at three and was on board in four of his six starts in Western Australia before landing in Malaysia.
"He (Our Jet) is a very nice horse and will improve after this run," said Cheng.
"He's got bright early speed and is very suitable for Malaysian racing."
For winning rider apprentice Haikal Hanif, it was just his second win of the season. Only a week ago he broke his duck for the year when successful on Ari.
"My boss (Cheng) told me that I have a good chance of winning on the horse (Our Jet).
"My instructions were to lead but hold back until the straight. The horse responded well all the way and did not give me a moment to worry."
Haikal, who hailed from Kelantan, won 17 races in his debut season in 2023 and rode 15 winners last year. So on that front, the season has been disappointing for the lad thus far.
And as if to make up for that, Haikal went on to score on I'm Back in the Class 4B – 1020m sprint, much to his delight but to the dismay for punters.
Placed in five of 18 starts in the UK, the French gelding by Dream Ahead has finished down the field in four runs in the country.
But the four-year-old showed early pace to track the pacemaker Autumn Blitz from the start before overhauling him to win by 3/4 length with Banker'ssixtythree and the favourite Outfit charging at him at the line.
I'm Back paid a thumping RM320 for a win.
