Lucky break for David Kok

The return of Pacific MV to the stables of David Kok brought an immediate change of fortunes for both horse and trainer in the UPBH Platinum Club Trophy (Class 3 – 1100m) at Sungai Besi today.

Kok used to train the son of Headwater in Singapore where he notched two wins and two seconds early last year.

But when racing eased at Kranji and owners Pacific Stable moved their entire string to Malaysia, Pacific MV was given to Jason Ong and in turn Kok was handed Pacific Bao Bei from Ong's yard.

Recently, the two horses moved back to their respective original trainers and Kok reaped instant reward to end a seven-week winless run.

Pacific Mv  won his third Malaysia start back in March and since then has started seven times for three placings, coming from a long way to finish second to No More Delay over 1200m three weeks ago.

This time, Pacific MV jumped well and was in second place early. Apprentice Jerlyn Seow elected to keep the five-year-old on the rails which meant that several others overtook him when the field settled down.

Aniki set the pace and had Yes Man for company at the 600m. Our Secret Weapon and Surfie Boy were well in touch next followed by Hurricane, who was racing wide after drawing the outside barrier, and Pacific MV.

Aniki led into the straight from Yes Man with Our Secret Weapon and Surfie Boy still in the picture. Behind them, Pacific MV was looking for a run.

Seow managed to switch out behind the heels of runners and once in the clear, swept past the leader Aniki in the final 100m to win from Wins One who flashed home too late. Aniki held on for third.

It was Kok's first winner since saddling Pacific Angel to victory on Jun 1.

"It comes as a huge relief for me," said Kok who took his tally for the season to 12.
