Best Bets for the nine-race card at Murray Bridge on Saturday.
Punters are faced with big fields and the likelihood of a track in the Good 4/Soft 5 range, as is customary for these metropolitan grade meetings up the highway at Gifford Hill.
I think we can start the day with a win and I'm pretty keen to be with first starter Ferivia in the two-year-old contest. She's a daughter of Astern that lines up for Phillip Stokes and Lachie Neindorf.
It was hard not to be impressed with her recent trial at Morphettville, which was the quickest of the 1050m trials that day. Under minimal riding, the filly quickened nicely and improved from midfield to reel in her well-performed stablemate La Roux before galloping through the line well to win the trial by a length.
There looks moderate depth in the race on Saturday, with several of her rivals having already won a race but Ferivia looks to have very good natural ability.
She's already been well found in early betting but at around the $3.50 mark, I'm keen to bet.
I'm also keen to have something on Lomax in the 1800m 0-64 handicap later in the card.
The Paul Carey-trained veteran is two runs into a campaign and there has bden merit in each performance so far. The step to 1800m on a seven-day back-up is a positive, the return to Murray Bridge is in his favour and the fact Jake Teoroek sticks with him gives me plenty of confidence.
His current quote of $3.70 is palatable but I feel we may get closer to $4 come race time.
