Friday’s French banker of the day is a British raider looking to keep up an unbeaten record intact.
Gethin (Owen Burrows/Callum Rodriguez) Saint-Cloud – R5 – Prix Turenne (Listed)
- Unbeaten colt
- Attractive form from both starts so far
- Trainer and Jockey have an excellent strike rate
British raiders in France are nothing new, but this one rates an interesting individual, arriving unbeaten as he steps up in class.
He was impressive on debut last October at Nottingham, pulling away to win by five lengths before following up under a penalty in fine style at Newbury on his seasonal reappearance.
Owen Burrows mooted the Epsom Derby as a potential target before his setback in May, so it's clear he's held in some regard by connections.
The most interesting fact about Gethin is he is he holds an entry in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, which could prove a realistic target should this afternoon's assignment go to plan.
Moreover, the form from his novice race at Newbury has been franked, with runner-up Saddadd going on to land the London Gold Cup (Handicap) before taking a valuable prize at Newbury, while the fourth-placed Meblesh has gone on to produce some solid form since.
Dangers are likely to come from Surabad for the home team, dropping markedly in grade after finishing sixth in the Grand Prix de Paris, while he also holds winning course and distance form.
There could also be more to come from Best Secret, who produced a fantastic victory in a Glorious Goodwood handicap and is yet to finish outside the top three this season.
That said, Burrows' colt is one he really fancies for the top level and in all truth, the sky's the limit for this Arc-entered three-year-old.
