Sunday’s French banker of the day is a colt proven in Group 1 company, capable of furthering his record…
Leffard (Jean-Claude Rouget/Cristian Demuro) Longchamp – R6 – Group 2 Prix Niel
- Grand Prix de Paris winner
- Notable trainer/jockey combination
- Colt on an upward trajectory
Leffard may not be a well-known name on the international racing scene but the colt has achieved plenty in his five-race career.
Disappointing in the Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly, the Jean-Claude Rouget-trained three-year-old caused a surprise when winning the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris over course and distance. Ridden to perfection by Cristian Demuro, he was produced in the closing two furlongs to achieve a nose success over Trinity College.
The Grand Prix de Paris provides a good guide to the Prix Niel with three of the last four winners coming from the mid-summer Group 1 to win this contest.
Trainer Jean-Claude Rouget has won the Prix Niel twice and a victory in the race would set Leffard up for a return to Longchamp in October for the Group 1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
