Teal hoping Dancing Gemini can waltz back to his best in Marois

Roger Teal believes that Dancing Gemini can return to his best as he gears up to head to France for Sunday’s Prix Jacques Le Marois.

Owned by Fishdance Limited, Dancing Gemini looked something of a sure thing to claim a first Group 1 success this season following commanding wins in the Doncaster Mile and bet365 Mile at Sandown.

A narrow defeat to Lead Artist in the Lockinge Stakes only affirmed that assumption for connections, but with a slow pace against him and having had a hard race at Newbury, Dancing Gemini failed to land a blow in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Teal has since given last season's Poule d'Essai des Poulains runner-up a mid-season break and reports the son of Camelot to be thriving ahead of his return to France.

"He's been very well. We freshened him up after Ascot and he's bouncing," said Teal on Sky Sports Racing.

"Rossa Ryan came in and had a sit on him this morning. He was very happy with him so all back to normal hopefully.

Reflecting on his poor run at Royal Ascot, Teal said: "I think it was a combination of a few things. The pace of the race was so slow and it just a two-furlong dash at the end to be fair. That was also his fourth run of the season, he had a tough race in the Lockinge as well.

"It was probably a combination of no pace and a little bit jaded after his last few runs, but he seems in good order now.

"We haven't hidden the fact that we've followed in the footsteps of Charyn last year. The timing of this race worked out nicely for us.

"We set our stall out at the beginning of the year with which races we're aiming at this one was near the top of the list.

"Whenever this horse runs, he doesn't get any easy times. It's always a strong field when we rock up.

"It's obviously difficult to get a good fix on the Japanese form but obviously they're very good horses. We know about the rest of them, so we'll just get our head in the form book and try to figure out what's going to go where and how the pace is going to be."

"Rossa knows him well and we don't want to complicate things. We'll just give Rossa a free reign and ride him as he finds him.

On whether Dancing Gemini could continue along the 'Charyn route' and head to Ascot on Champions Day, he added: "We ran fourth there last year and that will be the plan to aim for that again at the end of the season."
