It looks to be a competitive renewal of the six-and-a-half furlong contest, with the domestic defence headed by the impressive Lazzat, winner of the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot. Francis-Henri Graffad's globetrotting gelding won the Prix Maurice de Gheest twelve months ago and has relished the return to sprinting distances this summer.

Kevin Ryan's charge started the new campaign with an impressive victory in the Group 2 Duke Of York Clipper Stakes in May and struggled at Royal Ascot subsequently, finishing seventh behind Lazzat. He was expected to take his place in the line-up for the Group 1 July Cup but was withdrawn on veterinary advice at the stalls.

"It's unfortunate what happened in the July Cup, but that's past tense now and it was always the plan after that to go to the Maurice De Gheest," said Ryan, speaking to the Nick Luck Daily Podcast.

"He was in the seven-furlong race at York, the City Of York, but we decided to stick to what he does best which is sprint.

"This is six-and-a-half furlongs, an extra half furlong, but it won't be a problem to him. He seems very well in himself and I'm looking forward to running him. I think the distance will really suit him, there seems to be a good weather forecast over there for the week, so it should be decent ground. He has handled softer ground but he's a great moving horse and in an ideal world you'd just like nice ground for him.

"When he went to York he'd missed a fair bit of work so was going there not quite 100% which was a worry at the time. His class and a great ride from Ryan (Moore) got him through," Ryan continued.

"We went to Ascot in good form, but it just didn't happen for him. We can't blame the track because he's won there. On the day it was very, very quick ground and maybe that wasn't ideal. "

Inisherin could be joined by numerous UK representatives, including Charlie Appleby's duo Shadow Of Light and Symbol Of Honour. Shadow Of Light will be racing at Deauville for the second time this year, having finished fourth in the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat at the start of July whilst his stablemate, Symbol Of Honour, produced a respectable performance when eighth in the Group 1 July Cup last start. The experienced Regional, from Ed Bethell's yard, is also engaged alongside Archie Watson's Shartash and David O'Meara's Nighteyes.
