Riccarton Park Picks - Tuesday, 26 August

Riccarton Synthetic Race 1
2 Baggio

Baggio (#2) was much better than his run looked last start when finishing 6th, sticking on gamely after covering ground three wide without cover throughout. While he's drawn wide again, the small field should allow him to slot in with cover. The 3kg claim helps, and he looks well placed to win in this field.

Riccarton Synthetic Race 2
3 Forever Young

Forever Young (#3) was a very good 2nd here last start, and that effort would see him very hard to beat in this field. A favourable barrier means he should settle much closer in the run this time, and in a smaller field he gets every chance to break through in what looks a very winnable maiden.

Riccarton Synthetic Race 3
2 Enterprise Gem

Enterprise Gem (#2) has struggled since her maiden win here three starts back but gets her chance to bounce back. From a handy draw in a race lacking obvious tempo, she maps to sit closer and should get every favour in running. Well placed to recapture winning form.

Riccarton Synthetic Race 4
7 La Voisin

La Voisin (#7) debuts in the South Island for David Walsh, who has a habit of producing new arrivals to run well fresh without trials. Blinkers remain on, and further gear changes signal intent for this first-up assignment. This doesn't look a strong maiden, she finds a winnable race first-up in the south.

Riccarton Synthetic Race 5
1 Alberton Angel

Alberton Angel (#1) resumes as a 4yo mare. She can ping the gates and potentially cross Second Chance early, which should see her able to control proceedings. If she gets her own way in front, she'll take running down.

Riccarton Synthetic Race 6
4 Golden Harvest

Golden Harvest (#4) has been running honestly without threatening to win lately and deserves another chance. He can be slowly away but is capable of settling midfield with cover from the handy draw. With Sam Weatherley booked, he looks well placed to find his way back to the winner's circle.

Riccarton Synthetic Race 7
8 Franni Caccini

Franni Caccini (#8) was sound here last start when battling on for 5th in a race that was dominated by those swooping from the back. From the low draw she maps to sit close to the speed and get the run of the race without doing too much early. With that setup, she's a strong each way chance to close the card.
