Hāwera Race 1
6 Yellow Jersey

Yellow Jersey (#6) makes his hurdling debut for Jo Rathbone after two moderate efforts on the flat this preparation. He did place in a hurdling trial ahead of this campaign under Hamish McNeil, who retains the ride for raceday. A capable stayer on the flat when right, he looks a genuine chance to make his presence felt here at his jumps debut.

Hāwera Race 2
1 Brucie

Brucie (#1) looked to be travelling strongly into the race before falling late in the piece last weekend. He's clearly come through that okay and now gets Portia Matthews in the saddle, with her patient riding style likely to suit his racing pattern. He's capable of bouncing back quickly.

Hāwera Race 3
4 Jelly Roll

Jelly Roll (#4) may have just found the Heavy8 underfoot a touch too firm last start. Back on what is expected to be a more testing Heavy10, he should be better suited. Despite the small field, Pleasing looks likely to roll along as usual, which could play nicely into Jelly Roll's hands as he looks to finish over the top.

Hāwera Race 4
7 Time After Time

Time After Time (#7) resumes as a 5yo, having been unplaced in her only start last season on a Good4 track. Her recent trial effort on heavy ground was excellent and a strong pointer for this resuming run. With just 53.5kg after the claim, she can produce a bold fresh-up performance.

Hāwera Race 5
2 Blue Rata Warea

Blue Rata Warea (#2) has produced solid efforts in his past two runs on testing ground and now finds himself dropping into R60 company. From a low draw under Bruno Queiroz, he maps to get every chance in the run. This looks the right race for him to strike winning form again.

Hāwera Race 6
3 Ready Response

Ready Response (#3) was a sound 3rd here on debut, where he didn't appear to have all favours. He should improve with the outing under his belt, and the booking of Bruno Queiroz is another positive. From a favourable draw, natural improvement should see him go close.

Hāwera Race 7
2 Tor Ment Tor

Tor Ment Tor (#2) is best forgiven for his last-start 8th in R65 company, where he went to the line untested. His prior form in maiden and MAAT races reads strongly for this assignment, and the likelihood of another deep Heavy track won't hurt. With clearer running, he looks well placed to break through.

Hāwera Race 8
6 Morning Cocoa

TIP OF THE DAY
Morning Cocoa (#6) left her run too late when narrowly beaten into second at Rotorua last start. While yet to race on a testing Heavy10, she has handled Heavy tracks without issue so far. With just 53.5kg on her back after Rihaan Goyaram's claim, she looks a big chance to go one better.
